Would you believe we feed over 300 animals every single day at Cactus? It's no small feat. Every dog needs a proper, hearty meal and making sure nobody gets crowded out by the dogs with big appetites and bigger opinions takes real coordination. Our whole team is hands-on for every feeding round, and we're lucky to have five volunteers who show up to help carry this enormous job πŸ’š

🐾 We are always grateful for food donations - if you have any kibble, roller meal or meat offcuts we would be so grateful for your support.

Meet Bella 🐾

Three years ago, Bella arrived at our shelter, and ever since then, she has been patiently waiting for someone to choose her. While many dogs have found their forever homes, Bella is still hoping her special person is out there.

Bella is a sweet mixed-breed girl who loves making friends both human and furry! She's social, affectionate, and absolutely loves belly rubs. All she wants is a family to love and a place to finally call home.

After three years of waiting, Bella deserves a soft bed, endless cuddles, and a forever family who will never let her go. Could you be the one to make her dream come true?

❀️ Please share and help Bella find the loving home she deserves.

Mixed breed or purebred? 🐾
Tell us in the comments!
Here's the truth: every dog deserves love, no matter what's in their family tree. But if we're being honest, mixed breeds are some of the unsung heroes of the dog world often hardier, often healthier, and always one-of-a-kind.
Pure breeds come with predictability. Mixed breeds come with surprises (and usually a sturdier immune system to go with them).

At the end of the day, it's not about the breed. It's about the care, the training, and the love you give. That's what makes a dog thrive.

Team mixed breed or team purebred? Tell us in the comments πŸ‘‡ And if you've got a beautiful mutt at home, drop a 🐾so we can see how many are out there! πŸ’œ

Huge thanks to , who donates chicken to our shelter every single week. It goes into the dogs' food as an excellent source of protein. It goes into the recovery room for the ones who need strengthening up. And it goes in with the tablets, because our dogs have strong opinions about medication but can never resist their chicken!

Supreme Chicken, we owe you. The dogs owe you more πŸ’™

Miley, our distinguished supervisor of playtime, has claimed the black chair in the garden as her office 🐾 From there she watches over the whole yard, paws crossed, very much in charge and we wouldn't dream of asking her to move. She loves running and exploring outdoors, and while she's a little shy with new people at first, she warms up quickly and gets on well with people and other animals alike.

If your home has room for a supervisor, get in touch.

Zephyr waited at Cactus a long time before his family found him. Now he spends every day exploring their garden and comes home covered in blackjacks and grass seeds. Every evening, someone brushes them all out. Every morning, he goes and collects more 🐾 His family tells us he's wonderful with their children. "We love him," they say. Thank you, zephyr family β€” keep the brush handy πŸ’™

Lusaka nights are properly cold now, and concrete kennel floors hold the chill long after the sun comes up. We're appealing for donations of:
– Blankets, towels and bedding
– Heated pads
– Wooden pallets, to lift sleeping spots off the cold floor
Many of our dogs arrive thin, and thin dogs feel the cold hardest. A pallet and a blanket turn a rough night into a warm one. If you can drop anything off at the shelter, or share this appeal, we would be so grateful πŸ™

Ake came to us off the streets, and you'd never guess it now. Give him an open space and he's gone all four feet off the ground, running for the sheer joy of it, then bouncing straight back for more fuss. Underneath the energy he's turning into a gentle, easy boy. He'll need a home with room to run, in or near Lusaka 🐢 DM us if you'd like to meet him.

Meet the gorgeous Chloe! She has been with us four years πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί She's a German Shepherd mix, easy with people and other dogs, and never happier than when she's splashing through water or flat-out running across the yard. She needs a home with space to move.

Please help us find her a forever home! DM us to meet her four years is long enough 🐢

With the cold weather setting in, getting our animal shelters built and repaired before winter really bites has become urgent and we've run short on materials. Gum poles, wood offcuts, compact laminate, cardboard offcuts: anything you've got spare goes straight into dry, warm homes for dogs and cats who'd otherwise be on bare ground through the cold months. Even a small load helps us right now.

Drop-offs welcome at Cactus, Lusaka. Thank you for your support πŸ™
