LIVINGSTONE YOUTH MARCH: OUR VOICES, OUR FUTURE!

On Tuesday, 13th October 2026, young people came together for the Peaceful Youth March for Democratic Governance and Meaningful Youth Participation in Local Governance, organised by Development 360.

The event brought together young people and local leadership to champion inclusive governance and meaningful youth participation in decisions affecting their communities.

Our Guest of Honour, His Worship, Mayor Bright Hanakamba, commended the young people for participating in the peaceful march and emphasised that democracy goes beyond elections. He highlighted the importance of citizens contributing ideas, asking questions, and holding public institutions accountable.

A major highlight was the presentation of the Youth and Women’s Social Contract Demand Charter for 2026 to 2031, read by Edith Mainza. The Mayor committed to working with the Town Clerk, councillors, and relevant council departments to review the demands and provide a written response with practical next steps.

This engagement marks an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration between Development Three Sixty and Livingstone City Council in advancing meaningful youth participation and inclusive local governance.

We sincerely thank His Worship the Mayor, the councillors, the Youth Councillor, media personnel, parents, and all the young people who made the march meaningful

Special appreciation goes to ActionAid and Sida for their financial support towards this project and their contribution to advancing inclusive democratic governance.

We also acknowledge the drama group for bringing creativity, energy, and joy to the march, reminding us that young people can use different forms of expression to communicate important messages.

At Development 360, we believe young people deserve more than invitations to meetings ,they deserve a voice, a seat, and influence in decisions affecting their lives.

The march may be over, but the work towards meaningful youth participation continues!

The Youth March for Democratic Governance and Meaningful Youth Participation in Local Governance was filled with energy as the youth drama group brought their performance to life, delivering a message through creativity, expression and entertainment.

The excitement didn't stop there! Young people joined in the dancing, turning the moment into a beautiful celebration of youth, unity and togetherness. Even His Worship, Mayor Bright Hanakamba, joined in on the fun! 👏🏽

On behalf of the Board, Management, Staff and the entire Development Three Sixty (D360) family, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to His Worship Bright Hanakamba on his official installation as Mayor of the City of Livingstone on 8 October 2026.

📍 Meeting Point: Mukuni Park to Livingstone City Council

Participation: young people aged 18 - 35 years

Target: 400 young people

Marching under the theme

“youth Powering Democratic Governance and Meaningful Participation in Local Governance”.

Why it Matters

The March seeks to create space for young people to:
•Raise their voices on issues affecting their communities
•Promote meaniful youth participation in local governance
•Encourage accountable, transparent and responsive leadership
