Clean Water for Better Healthcare 💧🏥

Access to safe, clean water is essential for quality healthcare.
Serving more than 3,500 patients every month, Ophansi Clinic is an important primary healthcare facility for the KwaJobe community.

Since 2008, Wild Impact and andBeyond Travel have worked alongside the clinic and community to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve healthcare services. Over the years, this support has included a range of infrastructure improvements aimed at creating a safer and more effective healthcare environment for both patients and staff.

One of these investments was the establishment of a water purification plant, ensuring that every drop of water used in patient care meets the highest safety standards.

The system uses reverse osmosis and chlorination technology to remove excessive salts, minerals and microbial contaminants, while carefully regulating water extraction to protect the borehole and support the long-term sustainability of the water supply.

With access to clean water, the clinic can safely wash, disinfect and treat patients with confidence, contributing to improved hygiene, infection prevention and a healthier environment for both patients and healthcare workers.

This investment continues to support the delivery of quality healthcare services for the thousands of community members who rely on Ophansi Clinic.

Mnemba Island | Tanzania | Echo in Mnemba Island

Echo on the Mnemba Island started in March 2022

It was initiated by Wild Impact in partnership with Beyond.
Echo on Mnemba Island currently supports 14 schools. Lessons focus on raising awareness around marine conservation, pollution and marine regulations. Through programme, Community & Conservation (C&C) Rangers deliver both classroom-based lessons and practical snorkelling sessions.

Supporting Dugong Conservation in the Bazaruto Archipelago 🌊

As part of our ongoing collaboration with African Parks ' Bazaruto National Park, our Oceans Without Borders team joined the third year of the park's dugong tagging programme from 7–17 May 2026.

Working alongside park staff, the team participated in field operations across the archipelago, supporting dugong tagging, health assessments and data collection activities.

Dugong tagging involves carefully attaching a satellite tag to an individual dugong, allowing researchers to track its movements over time. This information helps conservation teams better understand how dugongs use their habitat, where they feed, the routes they travel and the areas that are most important for their survival.

Throughout the programme, the team joined daily sea operations and worked closely with park staff to support monitoring activities and data collection, contributing to a growing body of knowledge about one of the western Indian Ocean's most iconic marine species.

Building Strong Foundations for Success 📚💼

We are pleased to have commenced the first Nedbank Financial Literacy Programme alongside the first phase of the Youth Employment Service Programme in the Greater Kruger landscape.

Hosted at Wild Impact offices and across several of our host partner organisations, including The Timbavati Foundation, Rhino Revolution and The Good Work Foundation , the programme provided Stars In Training with essential financial knowledge and practical money management skills to support their personal growth, financial well-being and future success.

The sessions focused on key financial literacy topics, including budgeting, saving, responsible spending, understanding banking products and services, debt management, personal financial planning, financial goal setting, and building healthy financial habits. Participants were also introduced to the importance of financial decision-making and long-term financial security.

It has been inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and engagement demonstrated by the Stars In Training as they begin their journey towards greater financial independence and empowerment. The knowledge gained through these sessions will equip them to make informed financial decisions, manage their resources effectively, and build a strong foundation for their future careers and livelihoods.

A special thank you to Nedbank for facilitating and investing in this important Financial Literacy Programme.

Powering Education at Benguerra Primary School ☀️📚

Since its establishment in 2008, Benguerra Primary School has grown from a school with just two classrooms into a thriving learning environment serving 516 learners and 12 teachers on Benguerra Island.

Over the years, Wild Impact, in partnership with andBeyond and with the generous support of donors, has worked alongside the school community to strengthen educational infrastructure and create better learning opportunities for learners and teachers.

Most recently, the leadership of Benguerra Primary School identified access to reliable electricity as a priority for improving teaching and learning outcomes. In response, Wild Impact, andBeyond Travel and generous donors partnered with the school to implement a solar power project designed to provide reliable electricity across the campus.

The solar system supplies power to the school's classrooms, library and administrative facilities, enabling the use of computers, printers, projectors, lighting and improved internet connectivity.

The school is already experiencing the project's impact . Access to electricity has transformed the school's ability to deliver its ICT curriculum. With computers now operational in the library, learners can interact with technology for the first time, while the availability of electricity has also created opportunities for evening learning programmes that benefit the wider community.

🌊 Strengthening Marine Protection Through Ranger Capacity 🌊

We're proud to share that our Oceans Without Borders Project Manager, Diandra Naidoo, will be attending the Our Ocean Conference in Kenya. Ahead of the official conference, Diandra will be presenting at the Research Symposium on 15 June, showcasing insights from our work across the Western Indian Ocean.

Our presentation, part of the Maritime Security programme, will focus on the vital role that building ranger capacity plays in protecting our oceans and coastal ecosystems.

We'll showcase the Oceans Without Borders (OWB) ranger development programme and the journey our rangers undertake to become skilled Community and Conservation Rangers. Through specialised training, they are equipped to support both effective marine conservation and meaningful community engagement, helping to create lasting conservation outcomes.

Investing in people is one of the most powerful ways to safeguard our marine environments. By empowering rangers with the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead on the ground, we're building stronger partnerships between communities and conservation.

We look forward to sharing our experiences, learning from others, and contributing to important conversations around the future of maritime security and marine conservation.

Blue Economy for all

Wild Impact works with 11 partner communities that are situated on the northern tip of Unguja Island, commonly known as Zanzibar Island, and are home to over 47 000 residents. Tourism is the major economic contributor; aside from the tourism industry, employment opportunities are limited, particularly for those living outside the capital of Zanzibar City, with its historic centre of Stone Town. Most community members engage in small-scale fishing and subsistence farming to earn a living.

Despite significant growth in the Zanzibar tourism economy, work opportunities are limited. Over the past decade we have focused on improving access to primary healthcare and education by supporting the development and improvement of local clinics and schools. In addition, in 2018 Wild Impact and andBeyond Travel initiated the Oceans Without Borders (OWB) marine conservation programme, with a focus on coral restoration and improved protection of key marine breeding and nursery areas with the 2 130 ha Mnemba Island Marine Conservation Area (MIMCA). This work recognises that the health and resilience of marine ecosystems is crucial to local livelihoods and the food security needed for a thriving Blue Economy.

We work closely with the local Shehia, Local, District and Zanzibar government structures, who are equally committed to supporting the sustainable development of local communities, and improved MIMCA management.
