Our team is happy to be involved in the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities capacity building programme, wherein various organisations, departments and individuals are trained to use the Disability Inclusion Monitoring Tool, aimed at enhancing accessibility and inclusion in service delivery.

We're excited for the site visits to implement the tool and more importantly, plan interventions to promote accessibility in our metro!

CINEMA BEYOND LIGHT: Inclusive Smartphone Filmmaking Workshop

Swirlkous Films and Bona uBuntu proudly present an empowering, 12-session hands-on filmmaking journey specially designed for blind and low-vision youth (Grade 9 to age 21)!

Participants will learn how to turn their ideas into reality using standard smartphones, screen-reader tools, voice dictation, and audio editing—building real-world digital skills and tech confidence along the way.

Key Details
Start Date: Friday, 7th August 2026
When: Every Friday | 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM (12 Sessions over 3 months)
Venue: 52 2nd Avenue, Newton Park (In the Hub)
Target Audience: Blind & Low Vision Youth (Grade 9 up to age 21)
Equipment Needed: Standard Android or iPhone + Earphones (All other audio gear provided!)

Assistive technology is essential in supporting independence, access and inclusion for many learners with visual impairments.

Today is World Assistive Technology day!

At Bona uBuntu we recognize the critical role assistive devices play, and how important it is that children have access to this technology to be able to equally participate in school, tertiary education, the workplace and life in general. A lot of devices are still prohibitively expensive, but we recognise the strides being made to make accessibility standard features in cellphones and laptops, and look forward to when it is more affordable and available for all who need it.
