Subject: New Update on WIL Funding & Landmark Victory
Date: 08 July 2026

Dear Social Work Students,

We are pleased to share a significant update from the Social Work Student Association.

Through consistent collaboration with the Faculty Council and the Student Representative Council (SRC), we have achieved a major milestone for our student community.

The University Management Executive Committee has officially approved student support allocations for Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) practical placements. This achievement recognises the importance of practical training and addresses the financial challenges many students have faced.

The approved support amounts are as follows:
SWP314/E (Third Year): R2,400 per student
SWP324/E (Third Year): R2,400 per student
SWP410/E (Fourth Year): R9,000 per student

These allocations are aimed at easing the costs associated with transport, accommodation, and other essential expenses linked to your WIL placements. This is the first time such dedicated funding has been secured for Social Work students.

All approved funds will be credited directly to your student bank accounts. Please note that the amount will be deducted from your university account and will form part of your student balance, to be settled at a later stage.

This outcome is a result of unity, persistence, and student advocacy. SWSA remains committed to standing alongside you as we continue to improve support systems and create more opportunities for Social Work students.

On behalf of the Social Work Students Association Committee, I wish to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who graced our 2026 Induction with their presence.

To all S.W.S.A members , thank you for honouring our invitation. Your attendance and engagement today are deeply appreciated. You are the heart of this association, and we remain committed to Supporting Your Success.

We extend special thanks to Mr Kheswa the Former SWSA academic officer for taking the time to be with us today. Your support and guidance to S.W.S.A continue to be invaluable.

We further wish to thank the Chairperson Mr Asenathi Ntantala and Deputy Secretary Ms Entle Nkantsha of Sunrise UFH Alice for honouring our invitation. Your presence speaks to the importance of unity among student structures.
