SOCIAL WORK STUDENT ASSOCIATION: NELSON MANDELA DA AUTREACH.
In honour of Nelson Mandela Day, the Social Work Student Association (SWSA), in collaboration with Residents Department, spent their 67 minutes of service through a meaningful outreach programme at Lalela Old Age Centre and Phumalanga Age Centre in Alice.
This initiative reflected the core social work values of Ubuntu, empathy, and social justice, focusing on restoring dignity and promoting the well-being of the elderly. Donated bulk household items, including hygiene packs, and other essential needs(Blanket), to support the daily lives of senior citizens.
Guided by the developmental social work approach, this outreach aimed not only to meet immediate needs but to strengthen community connections. Also fostered intergenerational relationships, reminding us that the elderly are valuable carriers of history, culture, and wisdom.
This act of service empowered both students and recipients encouraging learning, compassion, and active citizenship. As Nelson Mandela reminded us, "We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference."
