๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ JUNE 16, 2026 | COMMEMORATING 50 YEARS OF YOUTH COURAGE AND RESILIENCE

Today, we mark the 50th anniversary of the Soweto Youth Uprising of 1976โ€” a defining moment in our nation's history when young people courageously stood up against injustice and demanded their right to quality education, dignity, and freedom.

Fifty years later, we remember not only what happened on that historic day but also the extraordinary bravery of the youth who changed the course of South Africa's future.

As we commemorate this milestone, let us retrospect on the sacrifices made by the youth of 1976. Let us introspect on our role in preserving their legacy and advancing the freedoms they fought so hard to secure. And most importantly, let us look at the way forward. To the youth of today:

The challenges you face may be different, but your power to create change remains the same.

โœจ Believe in your potential.
๐Ÿ“š Invest in your education and personal growth.
๐Ÿค Build communities rooted in respect and unity.
๐Ÿ’ก Be innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders.
๐ŸŒ Use your voice to inspire positive change.

The youth of 1976 taught us that courage has no age limit. They showed us that determination can overcome even the greatest obstacles.

As we honour their legacy on this 50th anniversary, let us commit ourselves to building a future worthy of their sacrificeโ€”a future filled with opportunity, equality, hope, and purpose.

Remember the past. Reflect on the present. Shape the future.

Happy Youth Day 2026.

The torch they carried 50 years ago now burns in our hands.

๐Ÿ’™ MEN'S MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH โ€“ JUNE ๐Ÿ’™

Many men are fighting battles that no one can see.

Research and lived experiences continue to show that many men suffer in silence with depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, and emotional pain. Often, societal expectations tell men to "be strong," "man up," or "keep going," making it difficult for them to seek help when they need it most.

This June, let us break the silence and create safe spaces where men can speak openly without fear of judgment.

โœ… It's okay to not be okay.
โœ… It's okay to ask for help.
โœ… It's okay to talk about your feelings.
โœ… Seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Let's encourage our fathers, brothers, husbands, sons, friends, and colleagues to prioritize their mental well-being.

A conversation can save a life.
Listening can make a difference.
Support can bring hope.

๐Ÿ’™ This Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, let's remind every man:

"You don't have to carry the burden alone. Your life matters, your voice matters, and your mental health matters."

"Strong men don't suffer in silence. Strong men speak up, seek help, and support one another."๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’œ MAKING A DIFFERENCE TOGETHER ๐Ÿ’œ

Nikithemba Foundation was honored to be part of a successful Mental Health Awareness event held at Royal Hospital in partnership with Nokusa NPO and Ntombiziningi Therapy Enterprise.

Mental health affects every aspect of our lives, yet many people still struggle to understand its impact or feel comfortable talking about it. This event created a valuable opportunity to educate, inspire, and encourage open conversations about mental well-being.

We were privileged to engage with members of the community, listen to their stories, and share information that can help people recognize the importance of caring for their mental health just as they care for their physical health.

A special thank you to Royal Hospital, Tyrone Naidoo, and the entire hospital team for their warm hospitality and unwavering support. Your commitment to community wellness made this event even more meaningful.

We were also inspired by the individuals we met throughout the day, including a remarkable lady whose passion for mental health advocacy reminded us that change begins with awareness, understanding, and compassion.

To our partners, Nokusa NPO and Ntombiziningi Therapy Enterprise, thank you for standing with us in promoting hope, healing, and mental wellness. Together, we are stronger, and together, we can continue making a positive impact in our communities.

๐Ÿ’œ Hope. Healing. Future.
๐Ÿง  Mental Health Matters.
๐Ÿค Together We Can Break the Stigma.

Over the past few weeks, Nikithemba Foundation, together with students from Durban University of Technology Public Relations and Communication , SAPS officers from Mountain Rise Police Station, officials from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Community Safety and Liaison, social workers from LifeLine, and school stakeholders, conducted a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness programme at Orient Heights Primary School.

The campaign aimed to educate learners about safety, respect, kindness, and the importance of speaking up against violence and bullying. Learners were encouraged to report abuse, support one another, and seek help from trusted adults when facing unsafe situations.

The awareness sessions were interactive and engaging, with learners actively participating in discussions and answering questions. Small treats were also shared to encourage participation and create a positive and welcoming environment for the learners.

We would like to sincerely thank the educators, SAPS Mountain Rise Police Station , the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, LifeLine social workers, DUT students and our Specialist Wellness Counsellor ( Pinky ) Not forgetting Our Director ( Vusi Mthembu ), and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the programme. Through collaboration and community engagement, we continue working towards building safer environments and protecting the wellbeing of children.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Freedom Day | Nikithemba Foundation

Freedom is more than a moment in history โ€” itโ€™s a responsibility we carry every day.

Today, we celebrate the voices that were once silenced, the courage that broke barriers, and the hope that continues to rise in every community. But true freedom doesnโ€™t end with usโ€ฆ

Freedom is not truly free until it reaches those still waiting to feel it.

At Nikithemba Foundation, we believe freedom lives in action โ€”
in lifting others,
in sharing opportunities,
in restoring dignity,
and in building a future where no one is left behind.

โค๏ธ Today, letโ€™s not only remember โ€” letโ€™s be the reason someone else experiences freedom.

Together, we donโ€™t just celebrate freedomโ€ฆ
we make it real.
