Cyber Fraud & AI: A Business Reality Check

Cybercrime is something that happens to someone else, not to me.
Is that what you believe?
Well, if you use emails to communicate, you are a potential victim.
This was the alarming fact conveyed by cybercrime fundi, Andrew Henwood (Bl@ck Rhino) and Werner Schmidt (Certra) at the first breakfast session organised by Mossel Bay Business Chamber at the Casino Hotel on Thursday.
Cybercrime is the third largest economy in the world after the United States of America and China and the amount predicted for 2026 is in excess of $11.88 trillion.
According to Andrew approximately 90% of the cases that they handle deals with fraud tricked to paying wrong accounts.
Werner used the attendance list to send emails to a few of the guests telling them how to make payments, etc to show how easy it is to infiltrate our systems and spoof them.
Most if us have either been targeted by fake bank emails or know someone who has been tricked.
Always verify that the account you are paying to, is in actual fact the real maccoy.

Mossel Bay Quo Vadis?

Mossel Bay is growing at a rate that makes most people's heads spin, but are we ready for what is to come?
About two years ago one of Mossel Bay's visionaries, Albert Wiffen, spoke to Dieter Jansen re where Mossel Bay was heading.
The seed was planted and the Mossel Bay Business Chamber was approached to act as guardian re a Vision 2050 project.
A group of volunteers under the auspices of Dieter started working with the public and role players and nine workshops covering the main sectors were held.
The outcome of these workshops were compiled in the presentation held at the MBBC May network at Diaz Hotel & Resort on Thursday
The greatest challenge lies in the shift of our mindset from the idea of a sleepy fishing village/retirement village to a culture open to change, inclusive of newcomers, driven by a healthy, collaborative ambition.
