One of our project partners in Hawston, the TS Birkenhead Sea Cadets, doing valuable work in youth development, are hosting a fundraiser to raise funds to send 9 of their members to the national SA Navy camp for Sea Cadets in Saldanha in July. To raise the needed R10000, the sea cadets are selling roti this Friday night, 5 June, from 6pm in Hawston (first house as you enter). See the details on the ad below. Donations to this worthy cause can also be made. DM for more info.

The little ones had a talk about the Tiny Ten🐞🐛🪲🦎🐦🌿Anina Lee showed the Grade Three class of Okkie Smuts the little wonders of our Overberg world, that often live very close to us... except we don't always notice them. We were thrilled with the waves of good questions they asked about the animals after the talk!

A Sneak-peek from our Water Expo this morning at Laerskool Okkie Smuts 💦💧💦 We had a blast with the Grade 6 and 7 classes, and we were so heartened by how engaging the students were at each station - they are so excited to learn!

At this table, they discussed Surface water and its Pollution Problems. At the other stations, they learnt a song to help them review and remember the Watercycle, they covered Groundwater, Stormwater and how we can Save our Wasted Water.

Thank you to the many people that responded to the call for help with picking up stranded eels and returning to the estuary. From those who reported back to me I estimate that around 300 eels were assisted in this way. Please add in the comments how many you 'rescued' if you were a responder. I'd like to try to do a more accurate tally. Only the dead eels remain on the sand now and we are halting this initiative here. Thank you once again.

We all know about the Big Five, but what about the tiny ten?
Seventy learners in Grade 4 at Die Bron attended the talk by Anina Lee. The talk was designed to amaze, fascinate and gross out the little learners. Topics included fireflies, dungbeetles, Acraea butterflies, Roridula, chameleons, Demodex and velvet worms.
