💗 WALKING TOGETHER FOR CANCER AWARENESS 2026 💙💛

Camdeboo Hospice extends a heartfelt thank you to the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality for a wonderful Cancer Walk 2026!

Our Hospice team, together with all our dedicated home-based carers, proudly joined the walk – each step taken for the patients we care for: those who have survived cancer, those still fighting, and those we remember with love.

From the Robert Sobukwe Building, participants walked safely through town with the assistance of the Traffic Department, ending at Angel Park with a colourful celebration of awareness in pink, blue and gold.

Sister Jack delivered an important message about breast cancer and the lifesaving value of early detection. Men were reminded that November is the time to prioritise prostate cancer screening. A courageous cancer survivor also shared his journey, reminding us that early diagnosis, treatment and hope can make a difference.

We walked for awareness. We walked for hope. We walked for every life touched by cancer.

Thank you to everyone who made this meaningful day possible. Together, we share the care! 💗

We just put out an incredible donated collection of true vintage, Murano Style hand-blown "Purse Vases" from the 1990s. Imported back in the day by Fifth Avenue Crystal, these beauties feature:

October: Cancer Awareness, Compassion & Care 💙

Eleven of our patients enjoyed a special Support Group gathering at Camdeboo Hospice, sharing their journeys, friendship and encouragement.

Our volunteer, Liz Saayman, arranged an uplifting programme, while Sr Maitland spoke about breast cancer, the importance of regular breast self-examination and early detection.

One patient courageously shared her breast cancer journey and how Hospice supported her. A candle was lit, then blown out, followed by the ringing of a bell - a meaningful moment of reflection. Cupcakes from Liz and a healthy meal prepared by two of our carers added to the warmth of the day.

CANCER AWARENESS MONTH 💗 | SAMANTHA’S STORY

In 2018, Samantha Graham-Maré (beloved resident of Graaff-Reinet and Member of Parliament since 2019) was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time.

In a recent visit to Camdeboo Hospice she shared in her own words, what their support has meant to her. See the video clip or read on . . .

At the time of the diagnosis, she was a local municipal councillor, a single mother, and supporting a daughter at university. Without medical aid, her cancer treatment took place at Livingstone Hospital, where she underwent a bilateral mastectomy and chemotherapy.

But treatment does not end when you leave hospital.

When Samantha experienced complications with one of her wounds, she reached out to Camdeboo Hospice for help. What began with wound care became something much more — ongoing physical and emotional support that has continued for eight years.

Today, Samantha still receives a monthly check-in from our Nursing Sister.

Through all these challenges, having someone to check in, listen, support and care can make an enormous difference.

This is what palliative care is about.
Not only caring for someone at the end of life, but supporting patients and families through the journey of living with a life-threatening illness.
