Meet Ernst and Irma Kriel, the owners of Die Wielhuis in Gansbaai.

Well known for creating pubs where people naturally gather and stay a while, Ernst and Irma have built a reputation that runs deep in local history. Many still remember Ernie's Pub and the first Buitesteen, two iconic spots they founded years ago, which helped shape Gansbaai’s social scene. Over the past twenty years, they’ve quietly earned a reputation as the godparents of good times in town.

Die Wielhuis continues that legacy, built around good company, hearty pub grub and affordable drinks, with the focus firmly on creating memorable nights out.

Recently, the team spent time at Little Sharkies’ new school premises in Berg Street, helping to demolish parts of the old building and cleaning up the garden.

Look who went shark cage diving with Marine Dynamics! It’s Jason Vanporppal!

After an incredible 106-day, 6,000km skateboarding journey from Uganda to Cape Town, Jason spent some time in Gansbaai enjoying the ocean and making new friends.

For those unfamiliar with Jason’s incredible story, his journey across Africa was driven by the goal of raising funds for a skatepark in Uganda. This project will create a welcoming space where young skaters can experience the joy and freedom that skateboarding has given him.

💙 Not all heroes wear capes. Some arrive on a skateboard, inspiring an entire generation. Well done, Jason Vanporppal!
