Empowering Imams to Preserve the Deen
We provide education, resources, and leadership training to Imams across Africa, helping them serve their communities better. 🌍
Currently empowering 592 Imams in 14 African countries. Namely, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana and Tanzania. Through our training, we have enhanced the effectiveness of our imams to bette

r serve their communities. And through our imams we can touch the lives of over 2 million people each year. This includes weekly jumuahs, thousands of children learning to recite Quran, combating gang violence and drug addiction, spreading dawa to non- muslims to mention but a few of an imam community engagements

We invite you to participate in this great initiative and help us, help our imams change the world for the better. This is a project under Mercy Mission World with partners including IPCI, IDM, Deenclass, Council of African Scholars, AlKauthar Institute and WAMY.

The Islamic New Year has arrived, and it shouldn't begin with celebrations.

It should begin with fasting, reflection, and a quiet return to Allah. 🌙

Muharram 1448 is here, and with it, the blessed Day of 'Ashura on Friday, 26th June.

Let this new year begin the way it should, with fasting, reflection, and a return to Allah.

New Islamic Year Mubarak from the IDP family. 🤲

A widow seeks comfort after her husband’s death. The imam tells her to be patient and moves on. She feels unheard and stops coming to the mosque.

A teenager questions their faith. The imam responds with anger. The teen becomes isolated from the community.

A parent asks for guidance about their child. The imam dismisses their concerns. They leave feeling judged and alone.

When imams lack emotional intelligence people suffer in silence.

Communities need imams who listen with compassion and stay present during challenges.

We’re training emotionally intelligent imams who can lead with both wisdom and heart.

Help us develop the leaders communities across Africa deserves.

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam but for most of these Imams, it was always just out of reach.

This year, 5 Imams from Lesotho, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Uganda are making the sacred journey of Hajj.

These are men who have spent years teaching about the five pillars, including Hajj, but for whom it had always remained a distant dream.

This year, they returned with firsthand experience, renewed iman, and something their communities have never had before, an Imam who has actually been to the holy place.

That changes how they teach, how they lead, and the hope they give to people who never imagined this journey was possible for them.

And that is what your support makes possible.

1,560 kilometres just for his faith!

Two days on the road. And he still showed up with a smile.

Sheikh Mustafa made that journey because he believes his community deserves a better Imam. And that belief? That's exactly what IDP was built for. 🤍

This is what investment in Islamic leadership looks like. Not just words. Real sacrifice.

May Allah put barakah in every kilometre he travelled. Ameen.

Sh Bilal, the CEO of IDP, is a reader, and he encourages the IDP team to be too!

This week, the office got a first look at hand-picked books from his personal library. Good ones. The kind you actually want to read.

Here's how it works: each department picks a book, reads it together over the next month, then shares what stuck with them and how it'll sharpen their work at the IDP: serving Imams across Africa.

New information sparks new thinking. We're curious to see all the new ideas in the next month, watch this space!

In the heart of Nairobi, tucked between rows of government apartment blocks in one of the city's most densely packed neighbourhoods, Sheikh Ramadan's masjid has been standing for decades.

With over 1000 mussalees at Jumuah and 100+ students attending madrasah maktab daily, Sheikh Ramadan is a busy Imam.

The busier the masjid, the greater the responsibility on his shoulders.

Imam Development Program exists to support Imams like him.

To walk alongside them, equip them, and ensure they never carry it alone.

Qurbani with Imams have passed but we’re still standing beside them to support them in their role.

They’re still answering calls and still counselling families.

Still carrying the weight of the community that needs his input and guidance.

At IDP, we walk alongside Imams not just in the big moments, but in the quiet, unseen ones too.

A portion of an Imam's duty is fixed and predictable: leading salah, performing Jumu’ah and giving the khutbah.

But what happens when a man approaches the Imam who is on the brink of divorce? Or a young teenage girl comes to him because she has fallen pregnant and doesn’t know who to turn to? Or the non-Muslim’s house next door to the masjid has just burnt down?

The Imam Development Program aims to equip Imams to deal with the dynamic challenges of his community.

Turning him from “just” an Imam, to an Imam who leads his community with strength and wisdom.

In 2018, Imam Shaffy Duwa established Darul Quran Madrassah with the belief that no child should be denied studying the Quran.

Today, students from across provinces sit side by side, memorising and learning the book of Allah.

This is what IDP makes possible. Imams who preserve the Deen for generations to come.
