Vocational Training: Investing in People for a More Stable Future
As part of the "Provision of Market-Relevant Livelihoods Training in Aden, Lahj, and Ta’iz" project, funded by the Government of Japan through the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Horizon Foundation for Development (HFD) is implementing specialized vocational training programs targeting 295 young men and women across the governorates of Aden, Lahj, and Taiz. The project aims to equip participants with market-relevant skills and enhance their opportunities to secure sustainable sources of income.
The training programs cover seven vocational specializations, selected based on the findings of a comprehensive labor market needs assessment.
The project seeks to empower youth and women, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable groups, by providing them with practical skills that enable them to enter the labor market or establish their own income-generating businesses. This contributes to improving household incomes, reducing poverty, and promoting self-reliance instead of dependence on humanitarian assistance.
Beyond strengthening technical and vocational skills, the project contributes to social cohesion, stability, and peace by providing equal training opportunities, fostering a culture of productivity and entrepreneurship, and inspiring hope for a better future among young people and women.
The project represents a successful partnership between the Government of Japan, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Horizon Foundation for Development (HFD). It demonstrates that investing in people and developing their capacities is a cornerstone of economic recovery and sustainable development in Yemen, helping build more resilient and prosperous communities.
