Girls on the Run of Southeastern Michigan We envision a world where ALL girls know and activate their limitless potential!

Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development program (PA-PYD) designed to develop and enhance girls’ social, psychological, and physical competencies to successfully navigate life experiences. Our ten-week program for girls in 3rd – 8th grade combines training for a 5k with a curriculum promoting competence, confidence, connection, character, caring, and contribution. T

wice-weekly lessons and interactive activities are led by trained volunteer coaches who create a positive and safe environment for girls to learn about themselves, connect with others, and contribute to the community. The program culminates in a non-competitive 5k event which gives the girls a chance to shine and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment.

Every dollar raised supports our scholarship fund, ensuring that every girl can participate in our confidence-building programs, regardless of her family’s financial circumstances.

This spring:
✨ 46% of participants received financial aid
✨ More than $93,000 in scholarships were awarded
✨ $14,000 in running shoes and athletic apparel were provided to 144 participants and coaches in need

Thank you to the for their support of Girls on the Run! We raised $2,160 as a charity partner of this year's Dexter-Ann Arbor Run to support our scholarship fund, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate in GOTR, regardless of her family's financial circumstances.

Today we celebrate and say goodbye to Sarah Gizzi — someone whose warmth, steadiness, and quiet reliability made a lasting impact on all of us.

Sarah began their Girls on the Run journey at just eight years old, as a program participant. They went on to become a coach and after graduating from the University of Michigan they joined us in a seasonal position, and then advanced to Program Coordinator.

Sarah brought a calm presence to every challenge, a thoughtful perspective to every conversation, and somehow managed to make even the most complicated spreadsheets feel approachable. Their attention to detail, organization, and genuine care for getting things right helped keep all of us on track more times than we can count.

Beyond the formulas and perfectly formatted tabs, Sarah will be remembered most for making our volunteers and participants feel supported, welcomed, and valued, and that’s a gift that stays long after the work is done.

We’re incredibly grateful for everything Sarah contributed and for the positive energy they brought to the team. Wishing them all the success and happiness in their next adventure! You will be deeply missed, Sarah. 💖

We are honored to be a charity partner of Dexter Ann Arbor Run again this year! 👟💖

We are volunteering at the mile 4 water stop from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 31st and we need at least 8 more helping hands! 🖐️ Children are welcome! It’s a fun chance to cheer on the runners, keep them hydrated, and share the joy of Girls on the Run! 🤩

We’ll bring cheering supplies, and every volunteer will receive a vintage Girls on the Run event t-shirt 👕 as a thank-you gift.
