🔊 CALL TO ACTION: if you support unarmed, non-police crisis response in Ann Arbor, we need to hear from you! Email City Council and sign up for public comment for the June 18th meeting to tell them:
• We want an unarmed, non-police crisis response program by and for community members most impacted by state violence;
• Reporting data directly to state police through a grant funding relationship is a direct linkage to police and goes against the community’s demands and interests for independence;
• The most recent RFP for unarmed response produced no applicants due to underfunding and restrictive requirements that reproduce criminalization— this is another move in the wrong direction.
👉🏽 According to the City’s own survey, over 92% of Ann Arbor residents support funding an unarmed non-police response program. After decades of organizing from Black & multiracial coalitions, the City is choosing to reallocate the $3.5 million in ARPA funding and enter a funding contract with the Michigan State Police. We say, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
‼️ Black Lives Matter. The lives of our community members living with substance use disorder, mental illness, and disabilities matter. Every day that Ann Arbor stalls is a missed opportunity to change and save lives for the most vulnerable in our community. Help us hold them accountable and amplify our visions for non-police alternatives & community-led crisis response in Ann Arbor!
