Council of International Neonatal Nurses

Council of International Neonatal Nurses COINN is the only international organization for neonatal nurses, established in 2005. Our specialty is relatively rare but important to newborns.
(1)

COINN is dynamic ever changing to meet the needs of neonatal nurses, neonates and their families. COINN officially incorporated in 2005 to act as the voice for international neonatal nursing and care. It is not an individual membership driven organization but rather a group that assists in working on global heath policy, advocacy, building capacity, and developing regional networks throughout the

world, for nurses who specialize in the care of newborn infants and their families. Some of the nursing associations have become members of COINN thus giving their members access to COINN for education, practice, or research. This page is about sharing stories about neonatal nursing care, education, and research and building community.

🌍 COINN at ICM 2026

A significant milestone was reached at the 34th ICM Triennial Congress in Lisbon, Portugal, as leaders from ICM, FIGO, IPA, ICN, and COINN came together to launch a Global Call to Action on Maternal and Newborn Survival.

Representing COINN were Professor Carole Kenner, COINN CEO, and Tracey Jones, COINN Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Education Committee.

This landmark Fireside Chat highlighted the power of interprofessional collaboration and coordinated, team-based care in improving outcomes for women, newborns, and families worldwide. It also marked the beginning of a strengthened global partnership committed to reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths and advancing healthcare outcomes across countries and regions.

COINN is proud to be part of this important collaboration and looks forward to working alongside our global partners to drive meaningful change for mothers, newborns, and families.
