Don't know what this says about our members, but we've apparently entered a dark chocolate era.

For years we've kept a jar of chocolates by the door.

The favorites change.

Sometimes it's caramel.

Sometimes it's milk chocolate.

Lately?

The dark chocolate disappears so fast that we've started ordering bags that are only dark chocolate just to keep up.

We have absolutely no hard data to support why this is. But if you are a milk or caramel fan, they are extras for you!

One of the things people don't expect about Pilates is that it can feel a little like learning a new language.

The equipment is different.
The terminology is different.
The movements are different.

Sometimes you're trying to:
➡️ Listen
➡️ Move
➡️ Breathe
➡️ Remember where your feet go
..all at the same time!

For someone new, Pilates is an opportunity to slow down and start noticing.

How does your body move?
What feels stable?
What feels challenging?
What changes when you move with more intention?

One of the things we often tell new clients is:

You'll learn how to use this just like you've learned so many other things in your life. 🤗

One repetition.
One class.
One small lesson at a time.

Now that we're grown up, we somehow believe that if we don't get something right away, we must be failing.

That noise has probably always been there, but boy, are we hearing it a lot lately.

"I'm not doing it right."

"I don't know what I'm doing."

"I'm going to distract everyone else who knows what they're doing."

Enough.

Learning has never looked like perfection.

And learning does not mean you're failing.

• Learning looks like trying.
• Learning looks like adjusting.
• Learning looks like figuring it out.
• Learning looks clumsy.
• Learning looks like showing up again.

We've got to start giving ourselves the same grace we so freely give everyone else when they're learning something new.

Sometimes the strongest feedback we receive isn't about a workout.

After being away for several weeks because of travel and an injury, one of our members came back to class this week.

Before she left, she stopped and said:

"I'm so happy to be back."

That simple comment stayed with me.

We spend a lot of time talking about strength, mobility, balance, and fitness. Those things matter.

But so does having a place where people know your name.

A place where someone notices when you've been gone.

A place that feels familiar when life has been anything but.

We're grateful to be part of so many people's routines, and even more grateful when they choose to come back after life's interruptions.

Because they always happen.

And when they do, we'll be here.

❤️

For a few minutes, it's quiet.

The mats are out.

The lights are on.

It's just this.

And then the room fills up, the day gets moving, and life goes back to being life.

But I always like this part.

The pause and possibilities before everything begins.

It doesn’t look like much.

Just footwork.
Simple, controlled, repetitive.

But this is where things start.

Connection.
Control.
Paying attention to how your body moves.

Not rushed.
Not thrown together.

Built from the ground up.

At some point, a lot of people hit this weird moment where the workouts that used to work…

just don’t anymore.

You’re sore for days.
Everything feels harder to recover from.
Your joints start filing complaints.

And because fitness culture is what it is, the assumption becomes:
“I must need to push harder.”

Honestly? Usually not.

Most people don’t need more punishment.
They need better coaching.
Better recovery.
Smarter training.

Your body changing doesn’t mean you’re failing.

It just means the approach has to change too.

Remember when your parents sneezed and threw out their back?

And as a kid you were like,
“How does that even happen?”

Anyway.

I twisted my arm playing hockey and now apparently opening spring clips has become an extreme sport for me.

It’s funny how fast you notice the small stuff when something hurts.

Grip strength.
Twisting motions.
Opening things you normally never even thought about.

Which is honestly a big part of why we train the way we do.

And look, injuries are still gonna happen, even when you’re doing all the “right” things.

But how well we recover from them…
and how able we are to adapt in the meantime…

that matters too.

It’s easy to go through the motion.

Press. Lower. Repeat.

But that’s not the same as doing it well.

Where you’re positioned.
What you’re actually using.
Whether it’s working for you.

That’s where coaching matters.

Because getting stronger isn’t about doing more reps...
it’s about doing the right work.

A small adjustment.
A different cue.
Someone actually paying attention to how you are moving.

That’s where things change.

It’s not about doing more.
It’s about doing it better for your body.
