Remembering Blues Pioneer Howlin' Wolf on His Birthday 💙

Chester Arthur Burnett, known professionally as Howlin' Wolf, was born on June 10, 1910, in White Station, Mississippi, United States. He became one of the most important figures in Chicago blues and was known for his powerful singing style and strong stage presence.

Howlin' Wolf began performing in the Mississippi Delta and was influenced by musicians such as Charley Patton. After moving to Chicago, he recorded for Chess Records and became one of the label's best-known artists. His work helped introduce blues music to wider audiences in the United States and abroad.

Among his best-known recordings are "Smokestack Lightning," "Spoonful," "Killing Floor," "Back Door Man," and "Moanin' at Midnight." Many of his songs were later recorded by rock and blues artists, helping his music reach new generations of listeners. In 1991, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Howlin' Wolf died on January 10, 1976, in Hines, Illinois, United States. We continue to remember Howlin' Wolf and enjoy his music forever.

We hope everyone is enjoying this Memorial Day weekend. Tomorrow, May 25th, the City of Woburn will honor all of the men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Memorial Day ceremonies will begin at 9am at Woburn Common followed by a march to Woodbrook Cemetery.

The Woburn Center area will be shut down to vehicle traffic from 8:30am to approximately 11:30am for the ceremony on the common and the march to Woodbrook Cemetery.

After the ceremony at Woodbrook, participants will travel to Central Street for a march to the Jewish and Cavalry cemeteries.
