In celebration of Imagine a Day Without Water, join NEWEA and our Affiliated State Associations for screenings of a "buddy comedy about p**p and the pursuit of making a better world".

Filmed over one year at Portland, ME's East End Wastewater Treatment Facility, Unless Something Goes Terribly Wrong is a documentary that takes you inside the often-unseen world of clean water. The film highlights the people and systems working around the clock to protect public health and our environment.

Five screenings in four states will take place during the weeks of October 12 and 19. Tickets to all showings are free and open to the public, and sponsorship opportunities are available!

The 2026 Student Design Competition, an event challenging teams of university students to design and present a project solution to address a water challenge, was held as part of WEFTEC in New Orleans, LA on September 27.

NEWEA was represented in the Circular Water Economy competition category by teams from Northeastern University and UMass Amherst.

Both teams were named winners, with UMass Amherst finishing in fourth for their presentation "Design of a Gravity-Fed Distribution System with Rainwater Catchment for Improved Water Access in Imale, Kenya" and Northeastern placing first for their presentation "Manchester Wastewater Treatment Plant Enhanced Nutrient Removal".

Congratulations to both teams on their winning presentations!
