🧐 You know those toxin notifications that we send out every Friday? This is the blue-green algae that's responsible for releasing toxins into the water. It's called microcystis (which produces microcystin).

Today is the last day for toxin notifications in 2026. We'll restart the Friday before Memorial Day, 2027!

🎨 Did you know you can view the winning Art Contest artwork in person? Visit the Alley Gallery in downtown Warsaw through the end of the year (and pick up some yummy food or do some shopping) while you're at it!

🫗 How do scientists measure how clear your lake is? One of the standard ways to measure clarity is using a Secchi Disk, a black and white painted disk about 8-12 inches across. Our team lowers the disk into the water until the pattern disappears completely and takes a measurement. Then, the disk is raised until the pattern just reappears. The average of those two measurements is your lake's water clarity!

Since this is our last week of summer data collection, our scientists will turn their attention to gathering all this data and prepare to publish our annual report: Beneath the Surface.

Check back in October for the final report that will show this summer's water clarity and compare it to the last two years.

🧑‍🏫 Calling Kosciusko families who homeschool! We're hosting two pilot educational events just for you centered around wetlands. Students will rotate among three stations including a hike, reinforcement game, and scientific activity.

Two dates are available for both students 3-8 years old and 9-14 years old. The younger age group is almost sold out but there is plenty of room for older students.

🐾 Claypool students used their senses to notice animal tracks, frogs, algae, and more as they hiked into a wetland.

Introducing K-12 students to amazing wetland ecosystems at an early age will help them make informed decisions as adults. Nothing can replace the up-close-and-personal field trips where students can immerse themselves fully into the cacophony of nature!
