As Georgia continues the hard, ongoing work of healing, we must keep coming together to listen, learn, and act. Join our statewide community on September 17 at Emory University for a free screening of the Academy Award-winning documentary short ALL THE EMPTY ROOMS.

Following the film, we are honored to join acclaimed filmmaker Joshua Seftel and state advocates like Heather Hallett of the GA Majority for Gun Safety Coalition, alongside leading pediatric trauma surgeons and emergency medicine doctors, including Dr. Chethan Sathya and Dr. Sofia Chaudhary. We are deeply proud that our co-founder, Sasha Contreras—survivor and 2026 Valedictorian of Apalachee High School—will bring her voice to this expert panel to discuss the lasting impact of school shootings and how we can protect our children moving forward.

🗓️ When: September 17 | 7:30–9:30 PM
📍Where: Emory University | White Hall 208 (301 Dowman Dr, Atlanta)

Real safety takes all of us: educators carrying a heavy load, engaged parents, students taking accountability, and leadership willing to listen.

Thank you to everyone who joined last night’s meeting. We are proud of our student leaders for opening a direct line with administration, and we look forward to continuing these constructive conversations. 💙❤️

Our students are in the building every single day living these protocols and after today’s false alarms, it is clear their voices need to be heard the most.

Safety protocols mean nothing if they aren’t properly trained, enforced, and practical. We are here to support our students in advocating for themselves and speaking up directly to the Board of Education.

Join Change For Chee for an emergency community meeting:
đź—“ Wednesday, August 26 at 7:00 PM

📍 Starbucks Bethlehem (851 Loganville Hwy) & Zoom (scan QR code to join)

On the Agenda:
- Debriefing recent false alarms and lockdowns
- Demanding enforced safety protocols and staff training
- Sept 1st BOE meeting prep & speaker registration (Forms must be submitted by Thursday at Noon)

Advocate for yourself. Use your voices, together. See you tomorrow.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, Cristina. đź’›

Today, we remember and celebrate Cristina Irimie. Her bright smile, cultural pride 🇷🇴, and unwavering devotion to her students continue to be a guiding light for Apalachee High School and our entire community. We hold her husband, Dorin, her loved ones, and all who knew her in our hearts today as we carry forward her legacy of love, warmth, and strength.
Please join us in honoring her memory today.

Healing a community takes all of us, every single day.

To the students who stepped up, spoke out, and reported this behavior: thank you for doing what is right. Building a school environment rooted in safety and mutual respect requires choosing empathy, rejecting cruelty, and refusing to settle for cheap laughs at the expense of our community’s pain.

We expect better, and our students deserve better. Let’s continue to stand together and protect one another.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHANGE FOR CHEE RELEASES STATEMENT ON ONE-WEEK MARK OF WARNER ROBINS HIGH SCHOOL SHOOTING

WINDER, GA — One week ago, families in Warner Robins received the call every parent dreads. In those horrifying first moments, the exact context does not lessen the terror.

Whether it is an active mass shooter, a targeted assault, or an altercation between classmates that turns violent, the panic of the unknown is identical. The desperate scramble to reach a loved one, the agonizing silence while waiting for a text back, and the trauma of watching emergency sirens flood a high school campus leave scars that do not easily fade.

What happened at Warner Robins High School carried a different context than what occurred at Apalachee High School, but the fear, chaos, and fundamental failure of security are exactly the same.

There is zero reason a loaded firearm should ever make it through the front doors of any Georgia school.

Real school safety demands shared responsibility and decisive, cross-aisle action:

• Securing School Entryways: Every district in Georgia must be equipped and funded with reliable weapons detection technology to catch fi****ms at the perimeter before they enter hallways, classrooms, or restrooms.

• Parental Responsibility & Safe Storage: Parents must be engaged and accountable for what happens in their homes. Safe storage is not partisan; keeping fi****ms locked and out of the hands of children prevents disputes from escalating into campus shootings.

• Bipartisan Action Over Stagnation: Protecting Georgia students, teachers, and staff cannot be a partisan debate. Republicans and Democrats must come together under the Gold Dome this January to pass meaningful, actionable legislation- pairing infrastructure funding with safe storage standards.

How many more lockdowns, hospital visits, and broken communities must Georgia endure before our leaders treat this crisis with the urgency it demands?

Change for Chee stands with the Warner Robins community as students return to class, and we remain dedicated to fighting for comprehensive solutions until every student in Georgia can attend school without fear.

JUST IN | An Apalachee High School student was arrested today.

A short time ago the school district sent a letter to parents explaining the student brought an "inappropriate and unsafe object" that violated student Code of Conduct.

I've confirmed it was one half of a pair of scissors the student allegedly had hidden in his sleeve.

The teacher apparently felt the student was acting off, notified administrators. SRO was involved and at some point the half of the scissor was found in his sleeve.
