A little perspective on the need in our community.

Yesterday, after serving our food pantry families, we were left with shelves that looked like this. EMPTY.

Donations have been very limited lately, and we have been having to purchase food out of our general operating funds just to keep food available for the individuals and families who depend on us. The need is great, and keeping our shelves stocked has become a real challenge.

That’s why we are so incredibly grateful to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol & Farmington Heights Church for showing up for Hope Station through the Faith & Blue Food Drive! 💙🚔 Thank you for thinking of our community, taking the time to organize this event, and bringing in a generous food donation that will help us continue serving our neighbors.

This is what community looks like. When our shelves are empty, donations like these make a real difference in helping us fill them back up and ensuring families have food on their tables.

We are so thankful for our community partners who step up when the need is great. 🤝

If you have ever considered donating to our Food Pantry, now is the time. Every donation, big or small, helps us keep food on our shelves and in the hands of those who need it.

Remember when we asked everyone to guess where we were headed last week? 👀 Some even guessed Disney World! 😂😂

Our team is back from Washington, D.C., where our Social Worker, Program Director, and Executive Director attended the Mental Health America Conference!

We spent time learning, connecting with others, and gaining new perspectives that we can bring back to Hope Station and the individuals and families we serve every day.

Of course, we had to squeeze in some sightseeing, good food, our first train ride for some, LOTS of walking, and plenty of laughs along the way! 🚆🏛️

We are thankful for opportunities to grow both personally and professionally while continuing to make a difference in our community!

But don’t worry, we’re back and ready to serve you today! 🩵🙌

World Homeless Day | October 10th 🩵

Today, we recognize World Homeless Day and the importance of bringing awareness to homelessness in our communities.

At Hope Station, our men’s shelter and family shelter are currently providing a safe place for 27 individuals, ranging from small children to older adults. Each person has their own story, their own struggles, and their own hopes for the future.

Homelessness does not have one face, one story, or one definition. It can affect anyone, at any stage of life. Behind every number is a person deserving of dignity, compassion, safety, and the opportunity for a fresh start.

Today, we encourage our community to look beyond the circumstances and see the people. Together, through compassion, support, and understanding, we can make a difference.

Because everyone deserves a place to call home. 🏡

We’re so grateful for Barton College Day of Service! 💙🐾

Thank you to the Barton team for spending time at our agency today, learning more about our mission and the work we do in our community, and lending a helping hand to improve our facility. From washing windows to simply taking the time to connect with our staff and learn about Hope Station, your support means so much!

Growing Together. Serving Better. 🙏

Throughout the month of September, the entire Hope Station staff came together for three days of meaningful training focused on strengthening our team and the way we serve our community.

Our team completed trainings through Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute (CTRI) in:

🧠 Trauma-Informed Care
🗣️ De-escalating Potentially Violent Situations
🤝 Crisis Response Training: Creating a Compassionate Response Plan

For the first time ever, our entire staff came together as one team to learn, reflect, grow, and challenge ourselves to do better.

We know there is always room for growth, and we believe that becoming better professionals starts with being willing to learn, listen, and grow together. These trainings gave our team valuable tools and perspectives that will help us respond with greater compassion, understanding, and confidence as we continue serving individuals and families in our community.

We are proud of our team for showing up, being open to learning, and investing in themselves because when we grow, the people we serve benefit too!

A big thank you to CTRI for helping equip our team with the knowledge and tools to continue doing this work with compassion and purpose.
