FOOD BOXES
Our food programs take place in the lower level of our building and are available only in the morning. These boxes provide enough food to feed the family 3 meals a day for 3 days at an absolute minimum. Hours for food boxes are 10 a.m. More than 4,000 people a year are served with free boxes of food on a monthly basis. Over half the people served are children, senior citizens, or disabled. FREE LUNCHES
Hot lunches are served for Take-out Tuesday through Friday at 11:30 am - 12:30 pm downstairs in our facility. DONATION: Contributions of non-perishable food items for the above two programs are always needed and welcome. If you wish to donate food, please contact the center to set up drop-off. CLOTHING (Common Cents Thrift Shoppe)
Our Common Cents Thrift Shoppe is located on the main floor of our building. Open Tuesday—Friday (10 a.m. and Saturday (10 a.m. to 2 p.m). Free clothing is given to people in crisis. Quality new-to-you clothing for all ages, household goods, jewelry, knick knacks, and more are available. Most items are under $5! New clothing is very affordable. DONATION: Contributions of clothing and household goods during the hours that we are open. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
We help people in need with emergency payments for heat, rent and prescription medications as funds are available. There is an application process. SUPPORT
The Common Cents Thrift Shoppe provides about 1/3 of our annual budget. We host special events throughout the year (annual auction, spaghetti/Valentine’s Day dinner, Spring and Fall festival)

Most of the rest is donated by individuals, churches, businesses and organizations. We are a registered 501 (c) 3 organization. All of your contributions are tax deductible. FOR MORE INFORMATION OR TO MAKE A DONATION PLEASE CONTACT:

DEEP ROOTS
More than half a century ago, some very special and courageous people planted seeds of harmony and unity by befriending and meeting the needs of Wayne County’s migrant farm workers. Although their cause was not a popular one, they persisted and grew, championing society’s downtrodden and steadfastly refusing government assistance in order to maintain their own independence. Along the way, they began to serve all people in need in Wayne County and learned that there is more sameness than differences in diverse peoples. Soon, they saw the wisdom in seeking good people of all races, religions, classes and ages to assist them in their cause of working toward the common good. Thus the Wayne County Rural Ministry /Come-Unity Center, Inc., was born and good people like you have been befriending and helping the rural poor of Wayne County ever since.

Second Hand September Starts Tomorrow!
This month-long campaign launched by the charity Oxfam, challenges people to not buy any new clothes for 30 days.

Why It Matters?

Reduces Waste: Millions of tons of clothing end up in landfills every year, and fast fashion creates massive carbon footprints.

Fights Poverty: Reusing clothes and shopping via charity stores supports sustainable economic development and climate resilience.

Promotes Circular Fashion: The initiative encourages building long-term habits like thrifting, swapping, mending, and donating.

How to Take Part

Pledge: Commit to buying zero new clothing items for the entire month of September.

Shop Pre-Loved: Visit local thrift stores, or use online resale marketplaces like eBay, Depop, or Vinted.

Get Creative: Host a clothing swap with friends or restyle pieces already sitting in your closet. If you're looking to jump into Second Hand September, here's a few second hand store locations to check out around Wayne County.
