The Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Lyons, New York has challenged local first responder organizations to create a Halloween-themed patch, and as always, Marion Fire Department Fire Department accepts the challenge!

As we enjoy the Halloween season, we remind everyone to stay safe, have fun, and look out for one another. Community is what makes everything we do possible, and if you’ve ever thought about being part of our organization, stop by any Tuesday night at 7 PM and see what we’re all about!

🚗💥 Pinned Man Rescue Demo!

What happens when someone gets trapped underneath a vehicle or piece of heavy equipment? That’s where the right tools—and the training to use them—make all the difference.

During our Open House, we demonstrated how a 19-ton-rated lifting airbag can be used to raise a vehicle off a trapped person. Our airbag system gives us lifting capability of up to 45 tons, allowing us to approach difficult entrapments involving everything from vehicles to large farm equipment.

In our rural community, where many people work on their own vehicles or service large tractors and equipment, having this capability can make a critical difference when something goes wrong.

Thank you to everyone who came out and watched our demonstrations in person! We enjoyed showing you a little of what we train for—and why it matters.

And if watching these demonstrations made you think, “I’d like to learn how to do that,” come join us! 🚒

We’re always looking for new members. Stop by the hall Tuesday nights around 7 PM or send us a message to learn more about joining the Marion Fire Department.

🚒 It Was Great Seeing Everyone! ❤️

We had a fantastic time at our open house yesterday (and sneaking over to enjoy a little of Marion’s Fall Festival, too! 🎃), and hope you had fun too.

It was great catching up with old friends, meeting new neighbors, and showing everyone a little of what we do! From the fire extinguisher simulator to our live demonstrations, we loved the chance to share our skills, answer questions, and maybe teach a thing or two along the way.

To everyone who stopped by, THANK YOU! 🙌 We volunteer because we care about our community, and seeing so many adults and kids checking out our gear, watching our demos, and taking the time to talk with us made the day truly special.

📸 Here are a few of our favorite pictures from yesterday! Keep an eye out for more videos of our demonstrations coming soon!

🔥 Not all fires are the same! Today at our open house, we demonstrated how a CO₂ or a Dry Chem extinguisher can be used on a diesel fire and why water is a bad choice! Here’s a short clip! Thanks to everyone who came out to learn with us! We had a blast and will share more of what we got up to tomorrow!

🪢 Ropes & Ladders! 🪜

Not every training night has to be complex or advanced. The basic skills are the foundation of everything we do in the fire service—and this week, we went back to those basics.

Ropes and ladders. Knot tying, ground ladder deployment, and tool hoisting. These are skills we may need at almost every fire, but they’re also perishable skills. So we spent a few hours reviewing four basic knots, teaching our newest members how to tie knots and properly throw and position ladders, and refreshing everyone on working safely from ladders and roofs.

We covered everything from hoisting tools and tying knots to checking for hazards, proper hand placement, and safely transitioning from a ladder to a roof. Chiefs also reviewed our procedures for ladder placement at fires, operations that may require ladders, and how these basic skills fit into the bigger picture of a successful fireground operation.

It might not have been the most glamorous training night, but everyone either learned something new or got a chance to sharpen a skill they learned a long time ago. Everyone took part and everyone demonstrated each skill.

In the fire service, you don’t rise to the occasion—you fall back on your training. That’s why taking the time to practice the basics is so important.

Want to learn some new skills, hang out with a great group of people, and help your community?
