“I want to file a grievance!”

We hear this sometimes when a member has had a difficult or frustrating experience with administration. But one of the first questions we have to ask is: What part of our contract was violated?

Not every workplace problem is a grievance — and that doesn’t mean the concern isn’t important.

Sometimes a grievance is exactly the right tool. Other times, an HR complaint may be a better way to address the concern because it allows us to look at the bigger picture, including history, patterns, and multiple incidents.

And sometimes, an issue may involve both.

Join eWEa tomorrow night, Monday, August 10, for the district board meeting!

Come early and hang out with us at 4:00 PM at The Parlor Bar on Whittier Blvd. eWEa will provide appetizers and soft drinks. Then, we’ll head to the District Board Room for the meeting at 6:00 PM.

Our next School Board meeting is Monday, August 10 at 6:00 PM at the District Office. Before the meeting, members are invited to meet us at The Parlor Bar on Whittier Boulevard in Whittier at 4:00 PM.

💙Welcome to the eWEa family!

Today, eWEa had the pleasure of providing lunch for our newest East Whittier educators and introducing them to the support, protection, and collective strength that union membership provides.

Starting a new teaching position can feel exciting and overwhelming. Our new members should know that they do not have to navigate their careers alone. eWEa is here to answer questions, advocate for fair working conditions, protect contractual rights, and make sure every educator has a voice.

Thank you to our newest members for choosing to stand with your colleagues and help make our union stronger. We are so glad you are here!
