Wheatland American Legion Post 432 is honored to announce Desert Storm/Shield Veteran Joseph A. DePuy as our November 2026 Veteran of the Month.
Joe's military career began in September 1973 when he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in the their 2x6 program which entailed 2 years active duty and 1 year Reserve.After completing basic training at Parris Island S.C. he served his 2 years and came out as Lance Corporal Joseph DePuy Marine. His Marine enlistment ended in September 1976
In March 1985 Joe answered the call of duty and now transfered from Marine to Army soldier joining the U.S. Army Reserve in Farrell, PA. Now comes September 1986 and PFC DePuy signed up for the active duty Reserve (ARG) his duties began in supply and logistics.
Now its October 1990 and Operation Desert Shield/Storm is underway. Joe Depuy's Farrell Army Reserve unit was activated and his duties in Supply and Logistics were put to use. Sgt DePuy served in Kuwait until May 1991. Joe served in the Active Reserve until May 1996 when he worked the civilian end of the U.S.Army while still drilling with the Army Reserve.
Taking Miltary courses and with intense training his knowledge and expertise in the petroleum Logistics field became important in readiness for the Army.
October 2004 Sergeant Depuy became part of the 475th Quartermaster Group as the Petroleum Supply Sergeant. His duties included assisting the plans officers in coordination and processing of petroleum and water logistical assistance projects.
It's August 2005 and Operation Desert Freedom is underway. The Army was having difficulty in petroleum distribution and Joe DePuy's unit was immediately activated and called to plan, direct, and manage daily operations of the logistical branch and problem solve. Sgt DePuy was stationed in Afijan Kuwait until May 2006.
In August 2007 retired from the Army attaining the rank of E-8 Master Sergeant. However, he fid continue serving our Country as a civilian in the 475th Quartermaster Group until October 2010 when he transferred into the 316th Sustainment Command in Coraopolis, PA as the Supervisory Logistics Management Specialist. His duties included Directing, development and performing logistical management operations and actions required to support a command of over 10,000 soldiers in 8 subordinated brigades in an 8 state region. Whew!
During MSG Depuy's military career he has attained a combination of 16 Medals and Ribbons. Along with 12 Commendations. Some of most notable are Global War on Terrorism Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Army Commendation Award, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Award.
Joe and wife Nancy were married for 42 years, sadly she recently passed. They have 4 children Heather, Chaz, Bryce. And Kayla along with 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Many of us know Joe Depuy as Quartermaster for 9 years of the James Stoner VFW Post 6233, West Middlesex PA He has been the tax aide for AARP the last 9 years. He is the treasurer for the Mercer County Foundation of Clubs and Joe is also in election pollworker.
