The Mercer County NAACP was blessed to receive grant funding this year to help get a Black Caucus established across Mercer and Lawrence Counties. The Black Caucus Leadership Lab is a program that was built in collaboration with our local strategy partner; and is our first step in making that happen. Its purpose being to equip black adults with the resources, knowledge, and confidence to serve well on boards and committees, in leadership positions, and in the community at large! Thank you Rep. Napoleon Nelson for helping us understand how the PA Legislative Black Caucus functions and how we can potentially work in parallel to do similar things locally. Thank you Christopher A. Ford for organizing and facilitating this week's session and to the participants of this year's leadership lab!

Congratulations to the 2026 Housing Resilience Cohort graduates! We could not be more proud of this group.

This inaugural cohort provided an important opportunity for the organizations involved to learn directly from participants and refine the program for future cohorts. One of the most significant lessons was that the largest barriers to housing stability were not always financial or quantifiable.

For many participants, fear, uncertainty and a lack of confidence could be just as significant as a credit score, savings balance or income.

That realization reinforced the importance of creating spaces where people can ask questions without judgment, confront difficult information with support and begin to see themselves as capable of achieving their housing goals.

The graduates were joined by family members and friends, community members, local officials, program speakers and educators who helped make the 12-week experience possible.

Pennsylvania State Senator Michele Brooks joined the celebration, offering congratulations to the graduates and presenting each participant with a certificate recognizing their
accomplishment.
