We also accept donations of medical equipment. In 1999, the UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation launched MERP, a reuse program for donated medical equipment, in Farrell, PA. This program helps area residents obtain the medical equipment necessary to remain independent. In 2011, a second MERP location was opened in Greenville to better serve those in our rural service areas. The addition of a
delivery van shortly after provides us with the opportunity to reach even more people who need us. Often the need for medical equipment is sudden and unexpected. Equipment is rarely covered by insurance and can be costly, making it seem out of reach for the average person. This community-wide program ensures that individuals who can't afford to purchase necessary equipment can borrow it at no cost. MERP reaches out to all ages and levels of disability, temporary or long-term. We provide not only necessary equipment, but peace of mind. We accept donations of medical equipment and our volunteers clean and repair it for use by someone in need. Those who borrow our equipment return it when finished so that we can continue the giving.
