October 8, 1929 - LODD Chief John Quincy Hunt

Box 23 was struck at approximately 9:30pm on October 8, 1929 for a grease fire at the Jackson Square Bakery. Chief Hunt arrived on scene and began investigating the interior of the building. After exiting, he collapsed into the arms of Firefighter Raymond Kennedy and ultimately passed away. His cause of death was listed as heat stroke.

Chief Hunt left behind a wife and six children. He has a stone memorial in front of the post office in Jackson Square and a street corner named after him at the intersection of Lafayette Ave and Cain Ave, where he lived.

Chief Hunt was the first Chief in the history of the Weymouth Fire Department.

Incredible news for our good friend Jarlath Waters and the whole Waters family!

…he did not in fact get a Guinness, but we did swing by one of our biggest supporters McGonagle’s Pub for lunch after receiving an amazing MRI result. We didn’t hear stable, Jarlath’s Oncologist said “we never see disease regression with Glioblastoma.” The Mighty Dad got a better MRI report than Quinnie has ever had, the tumor is completely gone! 🙏🏻 Jarlath is still battling the brutal side effects that come with the chemo, radiation and the Traumatic Brain Injury, as well as the aggressive nature of this cancer, but we will take every good moment we can and this is a great one!

We are relieved, to say the least. Our house has been a bit of a powder keg this last week with scanxiety, thank you to the Boston Bruins for the amazing memories and even more so, the distraction.

We’ll be asking for prayers again in another 6 weeks, but until then we will offer up our prayers in thanks and for all of you
