HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!!!

The year was 1909 and the place was Spokane, Washington.

Sonora Smart Dodd was one of six children raised by their father, all while he worked the family's farm just west of Spokane.

After listening to a church sermon about mothers, Sonora was struck by the idea that fathers should have their own day to honor them. She remembered all of the sacrifices her dad had made to keep their family together and prospering. She rallied support from church leaders, the YMCA and government officials. She even proposed June, the month of her father's birthday, as the time to do it.

A year later, on June 19, 1910, Washington State became the first state to celebrate Father's Day. The tradition would grow through the years, finally declared an official national holiday in 1972.

When visiting franklin we found a couple interesting artifacts from days of old. The barb wire is ancient and the glass looks to be from older types of vases or heavier containers such as from depression glass of yore . The piece of wire might date as early as 1890!. Might seem strange but things even as minute as these point towards the people that came before . They were found towards the back of the cemetery by the trees . Btw if you stop and visit Franklin it has gorgeous massive trees over 100 years in age .
