Today, Jewish students across Ontario are coming together to remember those who were killed and taken on October 7, and to make sure the reality of that day is not forgotten.

We’re standing with you. We're paying close attention to what’s happening on campuses today and throughout this week.

If you experience or witness something concerning, please report it to us. We’re listening, documenting what’s happening, and will follow up when university policies or expectations aren’t being upheld.

Last Thursday, Jewish students from across Canada brought their voices to Parliament Hill.

Students met with leaders from the government and opposition to share their firsthand experiences of antisemitism on campus - from harassment and intimidation to vandalized mezuzahs to being targeted for simply being visibly Jewish.

Their message was clear: Jewish students should not have to negotiate their safety, full inclusion in campus life, or right to be visibly and openly Jewish.

Our Jewish communities are strengthened by these resilient student leaders using their voices to demand change.

Speaking in Ottawa today, Hillel Ontario CEO Jay Solomon called on university leaders to be clear about what is and isn’t acceptable when it comes to the safety and inclusion of Jewish students.

“Speak with clarity. Say who you are, say what you believe, say what is acceptable in the institution that you lead and that you run, and say what isn’t. You have to start there.”

Jay spoke alongside Jewish students who travelled to Parliament Hill to share what they’re experiencing on campus — including McMaster student and former SRA representative Kate Blumberg, who spoke at today’s press conference about her experiences as a Jewish student.

“These are not isolated incidents.”

Somehow we’ve made it through week 2 of the semester and celebrated approximately 47 Jewish holidays, all while surviving on basically challah and vibes.

Can’t wait to do it all again next week. Shabbat shalom! 🪬💙

Jewish students deserve to live on campus with pride and without fear. When mezuzahs were smashed from Jewish students’ residence doors at Wilfrid Laurier University, our team acted immediately, working with senior university leadership to ensure a full investigation. We are proud of the students who stood together to replace what was broken, and who continue to show up, speak up, and build community.

As we approach Yom Kippur this Sunday evening, we are reminded of the power of return: the courage it takes to begin again, to come together, and to choose community in the face of challenges.

Tonight, the President of Wilfrid Laurier University is joining students for a Shabbat dinner, a meaningful reflection of the community students are building and the important conversations they are leading.

Hillel Ontario remains committed to standing beside Jewish students every day, helping ensure that their Jewish experience is defined by joy, community, and purpose, not by what they must withstand.

Wishing you and your families a meaningful and peaceful Yom Kippur💙
