“Life remains in us for much longer than is often apparent.”

Inside the Inna and Jack Kay Hospice at Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus, the world outside seems to fade away.

There may be conflicts and wars beyond its walls. But inside, Dr. Daniel Azoulay describes a different kind of world — a place where humanity comes first.

For 40 years, the hospice has provided compassionate end-of-life care to people living with terminal illnesses, helping patients find dignity, comfort and meaning in the time they have left.

Here, Jews and Muslims, religious and secular, patients and families come together with something deeply human in common: the desire to ease suffering, to be heard and to spend meaningful time with the people they love.

Families can stay with their loved ones 24/7. Music fills the garden. Volunteers setup a monthly coffee shop. And before discussing treatment, the staff takes the time to understand the person — not just the illness.

Because even when time is short, there is still life to be lived.

As Dr. Azoulay puts it, the goal is to fill that time with life.

Shabbat Shalom!

Americans of all faiths should be able to worship without fear. Yet 2025 was one of the most violent years on record for the Jewish community, with nearly 530 incidents of harassment recorded at synagogues. Tell Congress to help keep all faith communities safe and pass the bipartisan Right to Worship Act!
