Monday night was a busy evening for the members of the department. Thanks to Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office Small Equipment grant, Tom Oller with A.E.C. Fire and Safety and our board of trustees, we were able to update our Extrication Equipment (Jaws of Life). We used the funds to purchase New Holmatro Battery Powered Extrication Equipment! These will replace the original set of extrication equipment the volunteer department purchased 30+ years ago. The board approved the extra funds to get the full set of equipment. These were a much needed investment to aid our abilities to extricate someone from a vehicle during a motor vehicle accident! Tom delivered them Monday night and instructed us on the operation of them.

Some people have noticed a large piece of fire apparatus hanging out at our fire house for approximately the last month. Today we had our new to us tender lettered. Thanks to I.D. Sign of Springfield, IL it has been lettered with our graphics to match our other unit. We recently purchased a replacement for our 1975 Dodge Pumper Tanker that we had to get rid of last year. We purchased a 1998 Freight Liner 3000 gallon Stainless Steel Tender with 3 large diameter dumps. This new to us apparatus is a great asset to the department!

House Bill 5446 was signed into law, giving rural ambulance services the ability to staff their services with part-time employees to meet the need in their communities.

Everyone got to meet our new member this evening. We think Firepup is going to fit in perfectly!!!! Firepup can’t wait for the Waverly Picnic and Fire Safety week in October!!!
