This initiative builds on momentum started through a grant awarded to the Waverly School District under the Guerrero administration. While the grant laid a solid foundation, it is vital that we now expand beyond the limitations of funding to build a sustainable, empowered community that reflects our shared investment in Waverly’s future. The Waverly Community Leadership Team operates independently
of the school district and is guided by core principles of community leadership:
• Empowerment: Encouraging individuals to take initiative and drive meaningful change.
• Collaboration: Working together to address shared challenges with innovative, united solutions.
• Inclusivity: Making space for all voices and perspectives in shaping our direction.
• Advocacy: Standing up for what our community needs, today and tomorrow.
• Sustainability: Creating long-term impact that will benefit future generations. Through listening sessions and community conversations, several pressing concerns have emerged:
• Mental health resources and support
• Parental engagement and support systems
• A lack of activities for tweens, teens, and families
• The need for more multigenerational events and spaces
We’ve all witnessed a slow decline in community participation and engagement over the years. While Waverly is not alone in facing these challenges, it is uniquely positioned to rise above them—just as other towns have done. The memories many of us cherish from our own upbringing were built by generations who stepped up and invested in this town. Now, it's our turn. It’s time to set aside hesitation and excuses and come together to build something lasting—something that will not only serve our current residents but also attract new families and businesses who want to be part of a vibrant, connected community.
