and worldwide are mobilizing, fundraising, and actively fighting against the dangerous disease called polio. Polio would paralyze more than 1,000 children daily worldwide in the 20th century. Since the 1980’s thanks to the cooperation of more than 200 countries and 20 million volunteers more than 2.5 billion children have been immunized against polio.

Polio cases have decreased by 99% thanks to the work of Rotary International, World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Gates Foundation, CDC and more.

Donate to end polio at https://my.rotary.org/en/polioplus-fund where every dollar donated is matched by two dollars from the Gates Foundation. Polio worldwide can be eradicated by 2029 if necessary funds can be raised. (https://polioeradication.org/strategy-extension/)

The Watertown Current this week is highlighting Rotary International in the kids’ section. There will be fun activities to teach kids about Polio and how to prevent it. Remember that Global Polio Day is next Saturday, October 24. End Polio Now by donating at https://www.endpolio.org/en/take-action/why-give.

Every dollar given to eradicate polio is matched 2X by the Gates Foundation. Funds go towards vaccination efforts and surveillance to monitor the last remaining cases in the Middle East and Africa.
