We are so excited to welcome you for the very first time to the Haunted Barn, from October 23+24 from 4-7 PM and October 25 from 2-5 PM! We cannot wait for you to join us and see the Luther Barn completely transformed.

As a reminder RSVP is not required but extremely helpful to us! You can reserve tickets at the link in our bio. Saturday Haunted Mill tickets are $10 for individuals and $20 for families. On Friday and Sunday, tickets are discounted to $8 for individuals and $15 for families.

Friends! Neighbors! Quilters and the quilting curious! Announcing our 4th annual free afternoon of sewing with Wassaic Project residency and exhibition alum and creator of cottage courses Natalie Baxter (). The workshop is on November 14 from 12-4 PM at The Wassaic Firehouse, 27 Firehouse Rd, Wassaic NY 12592. Scroll through to see photos from last year's workshop and RSVP through the link in our bio.

Participants of this free workshop (and potluck!) will learn how to design, cut, and piece a quilt square using a sewing machine. All materials and tools will be provided and experienced quilters will be available to help. The end result will be a community quilt created by many hands to be displayed at the Wassaic Project and raffled off with proceeds benefiting the Wassaic Fire Company.

The event was made possible by Cottage Courses and the Wassaic Project.

We're reflecting on the magical summer we had here in Wassaic making art. We hosted 110 campers in 11 camps across 6 weeks — 33% of whom received full or partial scholarships. We raced boats, swam in the creek, wrecked pianos, quilted snakes, sculpted cacti, built time machines, filmed films, composed music, played gaga ball, painted, acted, sang, drummed, laughed, and brought to life the second installment in the Vagabond Time Killers saga.

We will announce the 2027 summer camp dates on November 16. Reach out early to [email protected] to secure a scholarship should the cost of summer camp present a barrier.

Throwback to the dreamiest weekend when we opened Delano Dunn’s DELANO DUNN solo exhibition, Echoes in the Margin, curated by Mickalene Thomas Mickalene Thomas in partnership with Troutbeck Troutbeck!

We are so grateful to be highlighting such a talented and visionary artist who first came to Wassaic Project as an artist-in-residence through our caregiving program in 2018. This exhibition continues our ongoing collaboration with Troutbeck, rooted in a shared commitment to supporting artists, fostering public engagement, and advancing cultural exchange in the Hudson Valley. Together, we have cultivated a space where contemporary art, history, education, and community are brought into active conversation, extending the legacy of creative and civic exchange that has defined both places. In Echoes in the Margin, Delano Dunn reimagines how Black identity and desire have been shaped and seen, and what it might look like to see them anew.

The show will continue to be on view through November 29th during Troutbeck’s public hours. RSVP through the link in the bio for the artist talk with Delano and Mickalene on November 7 from 1-2 PM at Troutbeck.

The Summer Exhibition might be closed but we aren’t slowing down. Stop by October 3rd for the unveiling of two new outdoor sculptures/installations by Liz Neilsen Liz Nielsen and akeylah wellington akeylah imani wellington.

The day’s schedule is as follows:

1:30-2:30 PM — A reading and conversation with writers and podcasters Amy Stephenson and Casey Childers, moderated by writer Jill Winsby Fein Jill Winsby-Fein

3-4 PM — Inside the Gridley Chapel, home to Liz Nielsen’s installation, a conversation between Liz Nielsen and akeylah wellington, moderated by independent curator Katie Hood Morgan Katie Hood Morgan (former Chief Curator and Deputy Director of the Hunter College Art Galleries).

4-6 PM — Reception for Liz and akeylah on the Gridley Chapel lawn.

6-8 PM — Tim Love Lee Tim Love Lee activates the Gridley Chapel with Resonant Reflections, a musical installation incorporating instruments made by our summer camp students and never seen before vinyl records.

Liz Nielsen’s Crystalline Resonance is 12 Chromogenic Photograms, on Fujiclear, face mounted to acrylic installed in the windows of the Gridley Chapel. Nielsen’s photograms are made by layering colored light onto photosensitive material in total darkness, and the works merge analog experimentation with celestial, architectural, and natural imagery to transform the Grildey Chapel into a site of reflection.

akeylah wellington’s two 9’ by 10’ pony bead tapestries, nineties resolving power and aughts resolving power, are inspired by celestial composites of supernovae, gas rings Herbig-Har objects, globular star clusters, binary star systems, and circumstellar debris disks from the Hubble Space Telescope observed between the years 1990 and 2009.

These works were made possible with funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, and in addition to the NEA, Nielsen’s piece was also made with funds by the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Foundation.

This year features a mood swing by Judy K Suh Judy K Suh, a monster candy feast by Walker Mettling Walker Mettling, a fairy tale forest by Rachael McArthur Rachael McArthur, a walking-themed shadow puppet show by Theodora Skipitares Skysaver Productions, a puppet installation and performance by Jane Catherine Shaw and students from the Wassaic Project Junior Varsity Art Club, a robot escape video installation by Chris Golub and Anna Yiaxi Savvidou Chris Golub Anna Savvidou, a giant moth installation made of Rorschach tests by Erin Perrazzelli Erin Perrazzelli, a dancing clown installation and performance around a fire by Brian Whiteley Brian Andrew Whiteley, a haunted petting zoo made of recycled materials by Isabella Schubert-Jones Isabella Schubert-Jones, a giant inflatable puppet created by Nicole Banowetz and Devin Reilly Nicole Banowetz Devin Reilly, an alien robot workshop by Jeffrey Repko Jeff Repko, and a “coin-operated” haunted music box interactive installation and performance by WHOOP DEE DOO WHOOP DEE DOO and students from the Wassaic Project Varsity Art Club.

On Saturday the 24th (only!) at 7:00 PM, we’ll head over to The Lantern’s garden for the Monster’s Ball, featuring a costume contest and live music. Please note that Monster’s Ball tickets must be purchased in advance and all attendees must wear a costume. We do not offer day-of or at-the-door sales and uncostumed ball-goers will be turned away, even with a ticket — we mean it! We recommend getting your tickets early: the Monster’s Ball has sold out well in advance for the past several years. Dress to impress, dance ’til you drop.

Come spend the afternoon with us as we close out our 2026 Summer Exhibition, Because, now is the time of monsters on Sunday, September 13 from 2-5 PM.

There will be artist talks in Maxon Mills with Dennis Gordon Dennis Gordon, Jessica Hargreaves Jessica Hargreaves, Ace Lehner Ace Lehner, PhD and MFA, McKinzie Trotta McKinzie Trotta, and Heather Renée Russ Heather Renée Russ from 2 to 3 PM. Open Studios in the Luther Barn, from 3 to 5 PM where you can meet our September artists-in-residence and see their work in progress. And don’t miss Ace Lehner’s performance, Barbershop: The Art of Q***r Failure, from 3:30 to 5 PM inside Maxon Mills.
