At the Moonbeam Preserve where OE and the OCLT teamed up to restore a pollinator meadow (thanks to a grant from NY Community Trust) , the ArcheWild Ecological Restoration Services team of 4 people unload trays of 11 different native plant species to be planted in the field to increase diversity, nectar plants, and pollinator habitat. They then walk the field identifying locations where new plant species will be installed grouped together in clumps. Red flags indicate areas where invasive plants were removed. Ongoing vigilance in removing invasives will be needed.

Toby Schack, VP of Orange Environment, and Paula Spector, Board Member of Orange County Land Trust, arrive at Moonbeams Preserve on June 12th where a 3-acre field is being restored and re-planted with 11 different native plant species well suited to specific zones, each with its own unique soil and moisture conditions, in various locations throughout the field.

Mark Brownlee, of ArcheWild Ecological Restoration Services, discusses the best way to restore a meadow at the Moonbeams Preserve by re-introducing native plants into the meadow and the importance of plant placement for optimum results. This project was funded through a grant from the Office of the New York State Attorney General and The NY Community Trust through the New York Pollinator Conservation Fund to Orange Environment Inc, and in collaboration with the Orange County Land Trust, owner of the Preserve.

Solar power generated more electricity than coal in the United States for the first time, marking a historic milestone in the country's transition toward cleaner energy. Rapid growth in utility-scale solar farms and rooftop solar installations, combined with the continued decline of coal-fired power generation, helped drive this shift in the U.S. electricity mix.

Falling solar costs, supportive policies, and increased investment in renewable energy have made solar one of the fastest-growing sources of electricity in the country. Although coal still plays a role in the overall energy system, its share of electricity generation has steadily declined as cleaner technologies continue to expand.

The milestone highlights the accelerating transformation of the U.S. power sector and the growing role of renewable energy in meeting electricity demand while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Continued investment in energy storage, transmission infrastructure, and clean power will be key to sustaining this progress.
