Orange Environment Inc. has been working to protect Orange County NY Since 1982.

The mission of the organization is to protect the integrity of Orange County (NY)'s region and promote the sustainability of its communities.

The AI boom is driving data center developers to secure their own energy sources instead of relying on the electric grid, often through new gas-powered plants.

More than half of these proposed gas projects plan to use older and dirtier technology than typical gas plants. These include repurposed jet engines and generators historically used only for backup power.

Now, developers want to run these equipment for thousands of hours each year, increasing greenhouses gases and air pollution.

We have a change of venue for repair cafe in Warwick this Saturday. Many thanks to 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts for hosting our event. We will be in the scout building behind the leisure centre in St Nicholas Park, open 10am to 2pm and look forward to seeing you! Our volunteers will do their best to fix toys, electrical items, bikes, clothing and more!

It was a pleasure joining Congressman Pat Ryan and local environmental advocates to celebrate the Hudson River Protection Act becoming law!

This important legislation permanently prohibits new barge anchorage grounds along the Hudson River, helping protect our drinking water, wildlife, and the natural beauty of one of the Hudson Valley's greatest treasures.

As someone who cares deeply about environmental conservation and protecting our natural resources, I know how important it is to preserve the Hudson River for future generations.

Thank you to Congressman Pat Ryan, Riverkeeper, Scenic Hudson, and all the dedicated advocates who worked tirelessly to make this possible.

Protecting our environment means protecting our communities, our health, and our future! 💚🌎

Orange Environment conducted a half-day program on pollinators and native plants with the children at the Rhythm and Rhyme Day Care Center in June. Led by Toby Schack, Vice President of Orange
Environment, the children in 4 different groups learned about monarch butterflies, sang songs about their stages of development, and then planted purple coneflower plants in one of the many
beautiful gardens on the grounds. Funding for plants and other supplies were provided by the Orange & Rockland Utilities Stem Grant program. Thanks goes to: Stephanie Loretzen, Director of the
Rhythm and Rhyme Child Care center in Warwick who organized this event to give the children this unique experience, the many teachers and staff that participated and helped the children plant the flowers, and Megan Henderson of Orange Environment who did the many tasks that led up to making this program run
smoothly and a great success!

A Celebration at The Garden -- Pollinator Planting Party occurred on Saturday, 8/29/2026 in the Village of Woodbury. A native plant pollinator garden was installed in a new recreation area in Highland Mills by Orange Environment, the Village of Woodbury Climate Smart Community Task Force and its' volunteers thanks to a grant of Orange & Rockland Utility.
These gardens will help the Monarch Butterfly's recovery by
providing milkweed, the monarch butterfly's host plant, and nectar plants to help sustain them during their annual migration.

Plants installed included:
12 Butterfly milkweeds and 60 Swamp milkweeds
2 New England Pink Asters
6 Joe Pye Weeds
15 Golden Alexanders
6 Blue Flag Irises
9 Cardinal Flowers
6 Woodland Sunflowers
Funding for this project came from a grant to Orange Environment Inc through the O & R Utility STEM GRANT program.
Everyone can participate in trying to prevent the monarch's extinction by planting milkweed, its' only host species, which is essential for the life cycle of the monarch.

The caterpillar featured in our photos was found on one of our newly planted milkweeds!
