VFW Post 7198 West Milford

This past weekend, we were able to support the NJ Elks North District Veterans Committee Classic Car show for Veterans at the Paramus Veterans Home. We took the humvee down and showcased it for all attendees. Heard a lot of "we didnt have these in back in my day". It was also the perfect opportunity to present our former commander, Bill Johnson, his All-American Post cap in front of the audience. It was a great day! Thanks to George Osborne for the invite! Very glad to have been a part of this ceremony. We then teamed up the Boy Scouts Troop 114 and held a Flag Retirement ceremony and disposed of many unserviceable flags the way they are supposed to be…..with respect and dignity!
If you have unserviceable flags, please take the time to turn them in to your local VFW Post, American Legion Post, or Elks Lodge. That way you can be sure that they will be disposed of properly!

The West Milford Township's Memorial Day ceremony will proceed as planned beginning as close to 10:00am as we can. We also plan on stepping off for the procession from Veterans Memorial Park down to the American Legion on Lincoln Ave as soon as we can after the ceremony. We understand that this may not be the most favorable decision to everyone, but the ceremony is about honoring and remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in order for all of us to enjoy the freedoms that we all cherish and sometimes take for granted. We know that our amazing community will still come out and stand with all of us as we continue to honor that true meaning of Memorial Day!

Last night, at the West Milford Township Council Meeting, members from our post received two proclamations from Council President Dave Marsden. Jr Vice Commander Mike Dotson received the 2026 VFW Buddy Poppy Proclamation and our 2026 Day-of-Service coordinator, or Tip of the Spear as I like to call him, Scott Card received the 2026 Memorial Day Proclamation. It’s truly great living in this amazing township! Thank you to all who were present and we hope to see you all out there on Monday, Memorial Day, where we honor all those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice!
