In honor of International Family Planning Day that occurred on August 3: Women for Conservation believes that it is crucial to highlight the direct impacts of their family planning project in Colombia by focusing on testimonies and lived experiences. These quotes highlight the challenges associated with early pregnancies but also the agency and choice invoked by the women and their decisions regarding their wellbeing, future, and bodies.

🌿 Important Notice 🌿

Due to the situation caused by the recent earthquake in western Colombia, we have decided to postpone the presentation of our scholarship recipients’ results, which was scheduled for August 15th.

We send our deepest solidarity and strength to the communities in the affected areas. We are currently organizing targeted aid to support areas with specific needs. 💚

We will announce the new date very soon so we can meet again and celebrate the work of these women who are leading conservation efforts in Colombia.

Happy International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem!

Protecting mangroves through sustainable solutions and community involvement is crucial for environmental futurity and traditionally marginalized and deeply impacted individuals, such as Global South women.

Women for Conservation supports an initiative in the Sundarbans ecosystem in India where local women are deeply involved in conservation efforts for the world around them and for their own economic needs. Through their work, the women are strengthening their own agency and “become conservation leaders themselves” (Simran Sinha) as they forge, learn, and apply sustainable methods.

We are so pleased to invite you to a presentation exploring a question that sits at the heart of conservation: Who is a Conservationist?

Through the story of a women-led biodiversity initiative in the Sundarbans, India—the world’s largest mangrove forest—Simran Sinha, our local project leader, will share how WOCAL (Women’s Collective Action for Local Biodiversity) has been creating space for rural women to strengthen their stewardship of nature, and the lessons learned along the way. 🐚🌺🌴
