This 501c3 is governed by a Board of community members & physicians, & is the non-profit arm of Blue Ridge Orthopaedic & Spine Center. Every year, the largest orthopaedic in town dedicates months of planning and hundreds of staff hours to create a non-profit give back event. This begins with the Bodies in Motion 5k, 10k and fun run race, which has historically been held at the WARF in town. Dozens
of local businesses contribute financially to the race, which exists to raise money for local non-profits. All race registrations are coupled with sponsorship donations and placed into one large “pot” through The Foundation of Blue Ridge Orthopaedics. Several weeks after the race, Blue Ridge gives all of this money back to the community in an invitation-only appreciation celebration. Invitees include Blue Ridge physicians and staff, local media, Blue Ridge partners, race sponsors, and non-profit awardees. Earlier this fall, non-profits were selected by way of an online submission. All non-profits that applied this year received funds. The only criteria were to be local in origin, serving the Fauquier/Culpeper/Gainesville region, and have roots and a purpose to reach the communities where Blue Ridge patients live and thrive. 501c3 status is preferred but not required. Since 2012, Blue Ridge has given $270,000 to the Fauquier/Culpeper/Gainesville communities by way of this annual give-back to non-profits. The last two race years each raised $55,000 for local non-profits!
