The AIST Long Products Technology Committee recently wrapped up a whirlwind five-day study tour across Northern Italy, combining world-class technical visits with equally memorable cultural experiences. The group of 17 industry professionals from the U.S., Italy, Germany and Sweden traveled from Udine through Vicenza, Verona, Lake Garda, Brescia and Milan, visiting an impressive 11 steel producers along with a leading technology supplier. The companies that opened their doors and shared their hospitality and technical know-how included ABS, Pittini Group Ferriere Nord, AFV Beltrame, Pittini Group Acciaierie di Verona, Feralpi, Ferriere Valsabbia, Acciaierie Venete (Odolo and Sarezzo), AIC, Ori Martin, Alfa Acciai and Metallurgica Marcora.
While every operation was unique, a common theme emerged: a relentless commitment to quality, innovation and continuous improvement. From newly commissioned facilities to thoughtfully modernized operations, each visit offered valuable technical insights and a chance to learn something new. The networking and knowledge sharing among everyone were invaluable, creating connections that will continue long after the tour has concluded.
Beyond steelmaking, the group had the opportunity to experience the history and culture that make Northern Italy so incredible, including Verona’s Roman Arena, the historic streets and piazzas of Brescia, and the Piazza del Duomo in Milan and breathtaking Lake Garda.
