A Victory Rooted in Purpose: Brother J. Michael Evans Elected Mayor of Centerville, Georgia.
Centerville, GA — On a historic evening marked by unity, vision, and unwavering purpose, Brother J. Michael Evans—a 1982 initiate of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and a proud member of the Omega Gamma Gamma Chapter—was elected Mayor of Centerville, Georgia, with a commanding 57% of the vote. This decisive win not only marked a new chapter for the city but also served as a shining example of Omega's Four Cardinal Principles: Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift in action.
Evans, a retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and graduate of The Citadel, is no stranger to service. Having faithfully served for 9 years as a Centerville City Councilman and as interim Mayor, his elevation to Mayor represents a natural continuation of a life dedicated to public duty and principled leadership.
But this victory is more than political—it is fraternal. From his earliest days as a brother of Omega Psi Phi, Evans has carried the mandate impressed upon every man privileged to wear the shield: to be barons of business and industry, writers of laws and policies, and leaders in their communities. His campaign, rooted in compassion, strategy, and integrity, mirrored the legacy of Omega’s founding fathers, who challenged Black men to rise above mediocrity and lead with distinction.
A Campaign of Perseverance, A Future of Uplift
Running a campaign rooted in listening, Evans centered the needs of the people. His platform addressed real, tangible concerns: strengthening ties to Robins Air Force Base, increasing transparency in government, investing in affordable housing, and enhancing community spaces for families. In every plank of his platform, Omega’s influence was evident—not as rhetoric, but as responsibility.
Manhood: Evans demonstrated unwavering character, running a dignified campaign built on principle and service.
Scholarship: His policy proposals reflected thoughtful study, strategic planning, and deep civic insight.
Perseverance: A 28.5-year military veteran and long-time public servant, Evans never wavered, even in the face of adversity.
Uplift: He inspired the city—especially Black youth—with a message of hope, excellence, and forward momentum.
An Omega Legacy Fulfilled
As Brother Evans takes office, he embodies the very charge Omega’s founders laid before every brother: to be more than symbols, but soldiers of substance. His service now stands as a model for Omega men across the globe—that our place is not only in the pulpit or classroom, but in city halls, boardrooms, and legislative chambers where decisions are made.
To the Brothers of Omega Gamma Gamma and the Fraternity at large, this win is personal. It’s proof that Omega men still write history—and more importantly, shape the future.
Centerville has spoken. Omega has answered. Now, the real work begins.
Congratulations, Mayor Evans. The shield shines brighter today because of your walk.
