This is the third turtle I’ve taken in today, and this beautiful snapper makes seven that I have right now, so when I got the call tonight to go grab her, I was out of my usual Rubbermaid turtle totes and figured a hit-by-car turtle wouldn’t escape an extra bin without a top when the drive would only be 15 minutes... and just this once. Right?

Wrong 🤣 She got out after about 5 minutes and clambered around the back of the car hissing at me. Here she is through one of the back windows of the car after l got home, notably not in her bin.

Anyway, she’s now been triaged and securely contained, although if you never hear from me again, maybe this dinosaur was not actually securely contained.😅

Rembrandt Starlink got his aluminum tape removed yesterday! His carapace (top shell) fracture has healed beautifully. As you can see, he doesn’t care and remains hateful and rude and I love him ❤️

If you’re wondering about his name, he’s a Painted Turtle and also- swipe right ⏩⏩ I don’t think he has forgiven me for calling him a Wi-Fi booster. 😂

2 weeks until he heads back to the wild- and hopefully stays away from cars this time🤞

83 days! 83 days since Opie came in on March 16th… followed shortly thereafter by Mouse, Charlie, and little Twiggy. I can’t believe these four brave orphaned babies- all singles- went outside today into pre-release! Time flies when it’s squirrel baby season and you also haven’t slept for 83 days 😂 These teenagers will be in pre-release for two weeks and then the doors will open to freedom (and I will cry) ❤️

The orphaned chipmunk babies, Cinnamon and Spice, are doing wonderfully! They’re not quite weaned yet, but they’re growing fast and continuing to hit all the chipmunk milestones, including being troublemakers! They’re moving to the big kid cage this weekend, which should be lots of fun!

Did you know that chipmunks and groundhogs are both in the squirrel family? They’re NY’s two types of ground squirrel- but they can definitely also both climb!

Baby mammal season + hit-by-car turtle season = self-care is not even on the priority list 😂 I think I ate only Chex mix and caffeine pills for a week in April. Anyway, Craig cares more than I do about my cuticle health and volunteers to do regular manicures for me. His funky teeth result in the occasional bleeding finger, but it’s the thought that counts!

Does it hurt when they bite? Yes. Does it hurt when they judge? Yes, but more. 😂 I have a particularly judgmental, unimpressed group of patients and residents right now. 🥲

Two new-ish intakes make an appearance here- Frog the American toad, who was caught in a mouse trap and arrived this morning, and Rembrandt the painted turtle, who was hit by a car. I’ve had him for a couple of weeks but forgot to introduce him- oops. So tired 😅

This tiny orphaned vole came in late last night. She weighs 6.9g, slightly more than a US quarter. She makes up for it in feistiness, but napping is the priority! 💤 Thank you to her lovely finder, Joy.
