The New York Houndsmen Conservation Association is proud to announce the 2026 Red Fern Youth Essay Contest!
This is a great opportunity for young hunters and outdoor enthusiasts to share their passion for hounds, conservation, and our hunting heritage while competing for scholarship prizes.
🏆 Scholarship Awards:�• $250 Winner – Junior Division (Ages 8–11)�• $250 Winner – Intermediate Division (Ages 12–15)�• $250 Winner – Senior Division (Ages 16–18)
📝 Essay Topics (Choose One):�• What hounds mean to me�• Training a hound�• Hound hunting traditions and heritage�• The role of houndsmen in conservation�• Lessons I’ve learned from hunting with hounds
📅 Entries Due: December 31, 2026
📏 Essay Length:�• Junior (8–11): 250–500 words�• Intermediate (12–15): 500–750 words�• Senior (16–18): 750–1,000 words
✍️ Essays must be neatly handwritten and submitted by the deadline.
The future of hound hunting depends on the next generation. We encourage all youth with a passion for hounds and the outdoors to participate!
