City offices and facilities will have the following closures in observance of the Labor Day holiday. If your residential sanitation collection day falls on Monday, your container will be serviced on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

• Veterans Memorial Pool (last day of the season)

❄️ Snow Berm Reduction Program applications are available through Oct. 1
The program's goal is to reduce snow berms across driveways of qualified people with disabilities in the City of Walla Walla who have physical challenges that make it difficult for them to clear the berm for access to and from their residence.

To qualify/request this service, a resident must:
✅ Complete the City’s standard Persons with Disabilities Berm Reduction Request Form
✅ Provide a copy of their temporary or permanent State of Washington Department of Licensing Individual with Disabilities Parking Privilege card
✅ Provide proof that the person lives at the property where the service is requested

September is National Su***de Prevention Month. It’s a time to recommit ourselves to reaching out, listening and staying connected. The latest VA reports released in February 2026 indicate that an average of 17.5 U.S. veterans die by su***de each day.

For veterans who may be struggling, you don’t have to face difficult moments alone. Whether it’s checking in with a fellow veteran, talking with someone you trust, or seeking professional support, asking for help is a sign of strength.

Sarah Kelnhofer, of Sarah Kelnhofer Counseling in College Place, is seeking volunteers over the age of 35 to participate in a study as part of her doctoral training program. She would welcome the perspective of veterans. With this study she hopes to "pave the way for empirically supported interventions that will make a real difference for people in this area."

School is back in session!

That means school buses are back on the roads, and kids will be getting on and off throughout the day.

Please slow down, stay alert, and watch for students near bus stops. Know when you’re required to stop for a school bus and always give kids plenty of space to get on and off safely.

Looking for hands-on conservation experience?

The Washington Veterans Conservation Corps is recruiting for a **paid internship with the Palouse Conservation District in southeast Whitman County.

As an intern, you'll work alongside conservation professionals to restore riparian habitats, improve water quality, enhance fish and wildlife habitat, and support sustainable land management. You'll gain experience in restoration projects, habitat enhancement, education and outreach, research, and conservation practices while working outdoors across the Palouse.

Internship details:
• 6-month internship with the possibility of extension
• Full-time (40 hours/week): $3,200/month stipend
• Part-time (20 hours/week): $1,600/month stipend
• Typical schedule is Monday–Thursday, with occasional evenings and weekends for outreach events
• Position open until filled
