Waikōloa Village Association

Waikōloa Village Association Welcome to the Waikōloa Village Association! Nurturing an inclusive, thriving community in South Kohala, Hawaii Island.

We preserve and manage our shared amenities, enforce architectural & environmental standards, and celebrate the spirit of aloha. 🌺 Waikoloa Village Association is a community originally established as a golfing retirement community in 1971. Over the years, however, the population has changed and become a more general community. The basic documents have not changed and remain in force. The purpose

for which the corporation is organized is to provide for the management, maintenance, protection, preservation, architectural control and development of property in South Kohala and North Kona, Island, County and State of Hawaii, within the area known as Waikoloa Village and to promote the health, safety and welfare of its members.

Update to the Leeward Planning Commission yesterday regarding Waikoloa GreLLC (located on the south side of Waikoloa Rd.)

The County has failed to move forward with the second road to ensure we can escape during wildfire events that burn into the Village. The second arterial road was promised as "the top priority" in the Community Development Plan for the Village adopted in 2008. Eighteen years later the road exists only on paper. The Commission voted to recommend that the County Council approve a zoning change needed to allow the new development on the east side of Waikoloa Road near the Plaza. These additional residents will all be trying to escape on Waikoloa Road along with current residents. The project developer agreed that the 2nd road is needed, but the Commission did not require that the 2nd road be open before new housing is added.

This matter will now be taken up at County Council. We need to flood the Council with comments asking that they deny the zoning change until the 2nd road is open to traffic. The choice before James Hustace for County Council is whether to keep us safe by making sure the road is open before we add more people at risk of dying by ensuring that the 2nd road be open before new housing is added.

Please join your neighbors by sending a message demanding that the Council protect us by not allowing more people to be put at risk and by funding construction of the 2nd road as soon as possible. This matter is not yet posted for testimony at a Council meeting, but it is not too soon to let them know what you want them to do.

Waikōloa Village Association joins the nation in honoring Juneteenth, a Federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and a milestone in our shared journey toward freedom and equality.

As we pause to reflect and celebrate, please note: No Contractor or construction work is permitted. Per WVA community rules, no contractor or construction work is allowed in the village on Federal/State holidays. Please plan accordingly and notify your contractors in advance.

Please be a good neighbor—keep noise levels respectful so all residents can enjoy this meaningful day.

We wish everyone in our Waikoloa Village 'ohana a peaceful and reflective Juneteenth.

Last Chance for Election Feedback + Board Meeting Tuesday, June 23

The window closes tomorrow afternoon on Friday, June 19 at 4:00 PM to provide your feedback about this year’s election cycle. It only takes a few minutes so please tell us what you think.

Be assured that the responses really do make a difference. In recent years we have changed the day and time of both the Candidates Night & Annual Meeting based on survey responses. As a result, this year’s turnout for both of those was the highest in over a decade.

If you didn’t receive the email invitation or haven't completed it yet, you can click on this link or copy it into your browser to open the survey.

Single Lane Closure on Daniel K. Inouye Highway for Open-Graded Friction Course Installation

HILO, Hawai‘i – The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) will be closing a single lane on the Daniel K. Inouye Highway (formerly known as Saddle Road) between mile posts 10 and 19 to mill the highway and install Open-Graded Friction Course (OGFC) to increase the pavement drainage capability and reduce the potential for hydroplaning. This work will begin at 7 a.m. on Monday at mile post 16 and will continue Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During the OGFC work, traffic in both directions will be maintained through alternating traffic control, or contraflow, in the remaining open lane. The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph and a pilot car may be used to ensure the safety of the workers. Crews will work toward Kona, then switch to the Hilo-bound lanes once they reach mile post 19.

When the crews switch to the Hilo-bound side, an assessment of the driving behavior at the construction zone will be made to see if contraflow is still necessary for safety.

Once the OGFC installation is complete between mile posts 16 and 19, crews will sequence to the highway between mile posts 16 and 10. The OGFC installation is expected to be complete in approximately 30 days, weather permitting. Future closures will be added to the weekly lane closure listing at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/
