What Is the Awareness Hike?

Simple explanation: a community hike created to raise awareness, move with purpose, and bring people together for something bigger than themselves.

We raise funds for Aid Another so that they can continue their mission of supporting individuals with disabilities and their families.

Just look at some of the amazing things Aid Another is able to do with community support.

People over the years

The Awareness Hike has never really been about the miles.

It has always been about the people who showed up, laughed through the hard parts, carried each other when the trail got heavy, and proved that ordinary humans can do pretty extraordinary things when there is a reason behind it.

Different years. Different faces. Same heart.

This hike was built on community, courage, muddy shoes, big feelings, and the kind of memories that stay with you long after your legs stop hurting.

If you have been part of the Awareness Hike over the years, drop your favorite memory below. I want to hear the funny ones, the emotional ones, and the “I can’t believe we did that” ones.

Question: Food — do we share, and what do we carry?

Food is personal because you carry what you bring, but some backpackers do coordinate and share items ahead of time.

Food and water are usually the heaviest parts of your pack, so we’ll help everyone plan smart.

This is true backpacking, so your kitchen is your camp stove. Camp coffee and tea are always a win.

Some people bring Mountain House or Peak meals, some make their own dehydrated meals, and some get creative with trail tacos, ramen, oatmeal, snacks, and treats.

We’ll make sure everyone knows what to bring before we go.

And we are back to answer more questions.

How do we pick the trails?

This guy right here. Jereme is not only a master oyster shucker, a photography ninja, a fabulous chef and food extraordinaire, but he is the trail guy.

Not only does he plan the route, he lays out every thing we need to know and we have gotton accustomed to calling it Jereme Miles (IFKYK)

The goal is to have a challenge and make it an experience.

It's a new week. Another round of questions.

Do the hikers just meet up to do the hike each year?

Nope a lot of us are actually friends outside of the hike and make it a point to meet up. Many of our hobbies of our similar like running.

This weekend we got all of our lady back packers together to run a community ice cream half marathon relay.

Second question:

Group hiking-do you stay with the group?

We start together, finish together, and camp each night as a group. This is an organized hike for a purpose and we all participate in the social aspects as well as the media things we do. Plus its fun.

But getting there we all have our own speeds. We check to make sure each group is doing good but its a choose your own speed during.

As we start moving through the summer it is time to start answering all of the questions and comments we have received.

First one: How was the trail?

It always pays to do a little bit of your own research LOL but it was epic none the less.

If you got to go see Jackalope this past weekend share your pictures.

Christine the Amazing face behind Aid Another led an amazing group of volunteers for this epic event. Every dollar fundraised goes to something that helps support the community. There are no words for the power of networking, heart, and community. We are so happy to stand behind this organization.

Stay tuned. To learn all about the Awareness hike, how to help in the community, and even participate on hikes with some of our hikers.
