👕 More Than Just a Great Thrift Find: Recapping Our Meeting with Goodwill Industries!

Did you know there is so much more to Goodwill than the incredible treasures you find on their clothing racks?

At last Monday's meeting, Howland Rotary was thrilled to welcome **Robert Mitchell** from **Goodwill Industries of the Youngstown area**. Robert gave our members an eye-opening presentation on how Goodwill accomplishes its massive community mission every single day—well beyond their retail thrift stores.

🚀 The True Engine Behind the Stores
While we all love a good thrift haul, Robert shared that those retail stores are actually the funding engine that powers life-changing, local human services. When you donate or shop, you are directly investing in your neighbors.
Here are a few of the incredible ways Goodwill is making an impact in the Youngstown area:
* **Job Training & Placement:** Providing individuals facing various barriers to employment with the skills, certifications, and confidence they need to enter the workforce.
* **Workforce Development:** Partnering with local businesses to bridge the gap between eager job seekers and employers looking for dedicated talent.
* **Rehabilitation & Support Services:** Offering specialized programs designed to help individuals with disabilities achieve greater independence and dignity.

🤝 Uniting for Good
Robert’s presentation perfectly aligned with our Rotary theme: Unite for Good. We are incredibly grateful to Robert for taking the time to open our eyes to the full scope of Goodwill’s impact and for reminding us how powerful local collaboration can be.

On Wednesday, I had the honor of attending the Warren Rotary Club meeting at Charbenay’s Wine on the River. We were joined by guest speaker Brent Rice, Director of District 6650’s Youth Exchange Program, along with incoming District Governor Ryan Boyce.

Did you know Rotary District 6650 has proudly supported the International Youth Exchange Program since the 1960s? Today, the program connects more than 20 countries and 15 districts from Ohio to Florida, with approximately 8,000 students participating worldwide.

Brent shared information on the two major exchange opportunities available:
• Long Term Exchange Program for students ages 15 to 19
• Short Term Exchange Program (STEP)

Youth Exchange is more than travel. It creates cultural understanding, leadership opportunities, peace ambassadors, and lifelong connections through club-to-club international hosting and local school partnerships.

Thank you to Brent Rice for sharing the incredible impact this program continues to make around the world through Rotary. And thank you to the Warren Rotary Club for hosting.

Throughout Howland Township, the Hometown Heroes banners proudly stand as a tribute to the men and women who have served our country.

As you drive through our community and see these banners displayed throughout Howland Township, take a moment to recognize the faces, names, and stories of our local veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.

This program is a meaningful partnership between the Howland Township and the Howland Rotary Club, created to celebrate and remember the heroes who have made an impact both at home and abroad.

We are incredibly proud to help bring this tribute to life and to ensure these veterans are recognized in the community they proudly served.
