Recently, the Taxpayers Association of Indian River County hosted our April Luncheon featuring a timely and substantive Property Tax Reform Panel at the Vero Beach Yacht Club.

We were honored to hear from County Commissioner Susan Adams and Property Appraiser Wesley Davis, who provided thoughtful insight into one of the most important issues facing our community. Commissioner Adams spoke in her capacity as the First Vice President for the Florida Association of Counties and Property Appraiser Davis shared his perspective as the First Vice President of the Property Appraisers’ Association of Florida.

Commissioner Adams spoke to the challenges local governments across Florida are navigating as property tax reform proposals evolve, particularly the uncertainty surrounding how these changes will impact long term budgeting, service delivery, and fiscal stability.

Property Appraiser Davis highlighted the key drivers behind rising property tax bills, including increased property values and the broader effects of national inflation, both of which continue to raise the cost of living and the cost of government operations.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to a productive discussion! These conversations are critical as we continue our mission of ensuring transparency, accountability, and sound fiscal policy across Indian River County.

As we ring in the new year, here is a look back at the end of the 2025 Year through our Annual Meeting 📸 — honoring the service and character that define Indian River County and celebrating the enduring mission of the Taxpayers Association, founded in 1933. 🇺🇸

Included here are important moments from the Annual Meeting: the posthumous presentation of the Ted Brown Award to Sergeant Terri Sweeting-Mashkow and David Long for their heroism and ultimate sacrifice for our County, and recognition of former U.S. Rep. Bill Posey as Fiscal Conservative of the Year for his long-standing commitment to public accountability and fiscal responsibility.

We were also privileged to hear from our county’s constitutional officers: Sheriff Eric Flowers, Tax Collector Carole Jean Jordan, Property Appraiser Wesley Davis, and Clerk of the Court Ryan Butler for a meaningful “Christmas with the Constitutionals”. The TPA also elected its 93rd Board of Directors and welcomed Anthony Furino as its newest Board Member.

Thank you to all who serve, support, and uphold the principles of accountability, transparency, and responsible governance. We look forward to building on this year’s work in 2026. 🎉🤝

We will be posting about our recent Annual Meeting, “Christmas with the Constitutionals,” in the coming days, but we first wanted to spotlight an important friend of the Taxpayers Association: Miranda the therapy dog!

One year ago, Sheriff Flowers brought Miranda, then a puppy, to the first Christmas with the Constitutionals (second picture). She has certainly grown since then but nonetheless, she is still beloved by our membership.

Miranda highlights the multifaceted nature of law enforcement K9 service dogs, and we thank Miranda and her fellow K9s for their service to our community.

As we gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving, the Taxpayers Association of Indian River County extends our deep gratitude to each of you for your continued commitment to strengthening our community. Your engagement, insight, and trust make our mission not only possible but enduring.

This season also invites reflection. Our community was reminded just days ago of how fragile life can be, and how deeply connected we are to one another. In that spirit, we give thanks for the resilience of our neighbors, the quiet bravery of those who step forward in difficult moments, and the blessing of a community that stands together with our law enforcement and civilian heroes.

May this Thanksgiving bring you peace, restoration, and a renewed sense of hope for the work we continue to carry forward together.

In honor of Constitution Day, our President and First Vice President signed a resolution congratulating the Indian River County Supervisor of Elections Office for receiving three National awards and thereby bringing tremendous honor to our community.

It is also worth noting that the 2024 General Election saw over 100,000 ballots cast for the first time ever in Indian River County’s history. We thank everyone at the SOE Office for their service to our community.

Looking forward to seeing everyone today at noon. Thank you to the many folks who RSVP’d. Walk-in’s are welcome!
