05/12/2026

The Taxpayers Association of Indian River County joins our community, our state, and our nation in mourning the passing of former United States Congressman Bill Posey. Congressman Posey dedicated his life to public service with integrity, humility, and conviction. From his service in the Florida House of Representatives and Florida Senate to his sixteen years representing Florida in the United States Congress, he remained a principled advocate for fiscal responsibility, government transparency, and the citizens he was honored to represent.

As recently as December of 2025, the Taxpayers Association was privileged to present Congressman Posey with our 2025 Fiscal Conservative of the Year Award, our highest honor for government officials, in recognition of his long-standing commitment to public accountability and fiscal responsibility. It was a deeply meaningful moment for our Association and for all who attended. As the former Congressman was presented the award, the room rose to its feet in a standing ovation, an expression of gratitude, admiration, and respect for a lifetime of faithful service.

In his remarks that day, Congressman Posey reflected on his work to advance a proposal for a constitutional amendment that would require balanced federal budgets, the importance of negotiation in Washington, and the guiding principle that shaped his public life: “representing you how I would want you to represent me if the roles were reversed.” That simple statement captured the character of the man: grounded, honorable, and deeply committed to serving others.

Congressman Posey’s legacy will endure through the communities he strengthened, the taxpayers he defended, the public servants he inspired, and the countless lives touched by his leadership. He will be remembered not only for the offices he held, but for the humility, kindness, and steadiness with which he carried them.

On behalf of the Taxpayers Association of Indian River County, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Katie, his daughters, Cathi and Pam, the entire Posey family, his friends, former staff members, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

May Congressman Bill Posey rest in peace. His service to Florida, to Indian River County, and to the United States of America will be remembered with gratitude and profound respect.

Recently, the Taxpayers Association of Indian River County hosted our April Luncheon featuring a timely and substantive Property Tax Reform Panel at the Vero Beach Yacht Club.

We were honored to hear from County Commissioner Susan Adams and Property Appraiser Wesley Davis, who provided thoughtful insight into one of the most important issues facing our community. Commissioner Adams spoke in her capacity as the First Vice President for the Florida Association of Counties and Property Appraiser Davis shared his perspective as the First Vice President of the Property Appraisers’ Association of Florida.

Commissioner Adams spoke to the challenges local governments across Florida are navigating as property tax reform proposals evolve, particularly the uncertainty surrounding how these changes will impact long term budgeting, service delivery, and fiscal stability.

Property Appraiser Davis highlighted the key drivers behind rising property tax bills, including increased property values and the broader effects of national inflation, both of which continue to raise the cost of living and the cost of government operations.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to a productive discussion! These conversations are critical as we continue our mission of ensuring transparency, accountability, and sound fiscal policy across Indian River County.
