Scouting America has announced a New registration fee structure to take effect on January 1, 2027

Members whose registrations expire on or before December 31, 2026, can renew before year-end to lock in current rates. Because the historical lapse period also ends on December 31, 2026, renewing by then keeps members from dropping their membership.

Scouts BSA has released the October 2026 edition of the Eagle Scout leadership service project workbook. The new workbook is shorter and easier to use. It focuses on what a Scout needs to do to complete an Eagle Scout leadership service project.

Unit Recharter is just around the corner and this year will work a little differently…

Scouting America is shifting all unit recharter dates and membership renewal dates to the end of February 2028.

* Beginning with units expiring in October 2026, unit renewal will be through February 2028 at a cost of $8.50 per month. (e.g., a unit expiring at the end of December 2026 will recharter for 14 months, so $8.50 x 14 = $119).

* Beginning December 2026, there will no longer be a “lapsed period” after a unit expires. The unit loses access to online tools until the unit is rechartered manually.
Please start planning NOW to ensure your unit recharters on time.

🌉 Work with the pack to plan a meaningful crossover ceremony.

Updating New Fields in BeAScout Pins

Scout Leaders,

Starting soon, you may receive a text, email, or call from "Jess," a virtual AI membership engagement assistant being piloted by Scouting America.

Jess will ask a few quick questions about your unit meeting location, times, fees, and what makes your unit great. Since August 3, 2026, BeAScout pins have added these new fields that need to be updated.

Your answers will be used to automatically update your BeAScout pin, saving you from having to do it yourself, and making it so families searching for Scouting see the most accurate information and can find the right unit.

The whole process will take about 1 minute of your time. Please keep an eye out for contact from Jess starting soon!

If you have already updated these new fields in your pin on or after August 3rd, you should be all set. Thank you! The Scouts BSA Advancement Committee is updating the Guide to Advancement and is seeking feedback from Scoutmasters, assistant Scoutmasters, advancement chairs, merit badge counselors, commissioners, advancement volunteers, council professionals, parents, and families.
