🎉 Congratulations to Brother Carlos Castanon on an incredible 50 years of service!

From starting as a T300 Helper in the 70's to serving today as a Services Working Foreman, Carlos has spent five decades supporting his fellow 1245 brothers and sisters, managing millions of dollars in tools and equipment, and bringing positivity and dedication to the job every day.

🔦 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Dominic McCurtain

After nearly two decades working his way through the ranks at the City of Redding, from the Maintenance Unit to Leadworker, shop steward, and negotiating committee member, Dominic McCurtain now puts that experience to work representing IBEW 1245 members across the North State.

Dominic represents members at Bella Vista Water District, the City of Redding, the City of Shasta Lake, Paradise Irrigation District, and South Feather Water & Power, helping members navigate challenges, enforce their contracts, and build stronger workplaces.

"The work matters. Whether you're negotiating wages, protecting benefits, defending a member in discipline, or dealing with a contract issue, the result can directly affect someone's paycheck, job, family, or future," McCurtain said.

⚡️Rebuilding a Critical Skill

For decades, PG&E transmission crews performed barehand work on energized transmission lines, allowing repairs to be completed without interrupting service. It’s highly specialized work, and when barehand training stopped in recent years, much of the company’s expertise began to disappear.

In 2025, after extensive advocacy by IBEW 1245 and a comprehensive review of industry best practices, including a third-party safety assessment, a pilot program was launched to reintroduce barehand work to T200 transmission crews. The agreement established dedicated Subject Matter Experts, specialized training, and premium pay for employees performing this work.

As part of the effort to rebuild and preserve this critical skill set, our Brother, Ryan Skelton, IBEW 1245 Business Representative, is currently participating in barehand certification training in Los Banos, CA.

These photos offer a glimpse into the rigorous training and focus required to safely perform barehand work on energized transmission lines.

The training concludes this week, and we can’t wait to give you a closer look at what it takes to earn a barehand certification.

Members of the IBEW 1245 Veterans Committee recently joined the Yuba-Sutter community for an evening dedicated to honoring and supporting Veterans at the annual Veterans Stand Down Fundraiser Dinner.

The event supports critical services and resources for Veterans throughout the Yuba-Sutter region and reflects the Committee's guiding principle: Leave No Veteran Behind.
